Working out

I gave myself a week off due to excessive bloat but now I gotta get back on the exercise wagon.  I usually elliptical, jog with the dog, or take dance classes.  What does everyone else do?

My only issue now is that even with a sports bra the bouncing hurts!

Re: Working out

  • I hop on the elliptical a few times a week and I walk when it is nice out.  I am not very good at working out while pregnant, just try to eat healthy.

  • I walk my dogs for 30-45 minutes every day and call it good. Eventually I'd like to add in some prenatal yoga, as it sounds relaxing and energizing. Any yoga lovers in the group?

  • Thank Gawd my boobs don't hurt like the did with my DD. I can totally understand. I usually jog about 5 miles with my DD each morning. I feel like a slug if I don't I may have a slight addiction. LOL Just trying to not push it now. I used to like to see how fast I could do it in, Now I just cruise...

  • I take classes at the gym (boot camp, pilates, and yoga).  I plan to keep taking classes until it becomes to difficult or the OB tells me I need to start taking it easy.

  • I've been jogging with the dog, but it's getting a little to hot here to go very long in the daytime, so I'll be heading back to the gym soon.  I also like the elliptical and the rowing machine (not sure how long I can use that though)

I have never done Yoga, but I am planning on starting prenatal yoga at the end of my first trimester. I have heard great things about it! Any yoga advice for a newbie?

  • I can't offer any advice, as I've only dabbled in yoga. I, too, am waiting until the 2nd trimester to add it, though.

  • I was wondering the same thing except I wasn't doing a lot of exercise before preg.  My doctor told me to hold off until my 2nd trimester but I feel like if I do at least a little something, I won't feel all bloated like a beach ball.  Someone mentioned that I should get a Pregnancy Yoga DVD, so I might get that.

  • Just a tip for those who want to try yoga- if you have Netflix, they have many workout videos that you can stream instantly.  I haven't checked for prenatal videos, but I'm sure you could find some.  Half Price Books also sells these types of DVDs in the exercise section for less than $10 most of the time.  I did P90X yoga before I got KU, so I might get back into yoga now.  I need to learn how to relax!!
  • I was working out very regularly before, but now I can barely move my body. Fatigue has set in big time. I can barely stay awake just for basic functions so I'm not sure how I'm going to manage to work out.

  • Netflix does have prenatal yoga videos.  I had one sent to my house.  I tend to like more active workouts (running, elliptical, boot camp, etc.), so the yoga was very different.  I was actually quite sore the next day since I don't stretch a whole lot.  The video I watched had three different people leading the exercises, one showing the moves for each trimester.

I took this week off from working out besides walking my dog though.  My boobies hurt like crazy and I got much more tired this week.  Today I went kayaking for a few hours, then came home and slept for a few hours.

  • Horse back riding is my main form of exercise and I plan on continue riding until about 12 weeks.  I am only doing flatwork from here on out (no more jumping!) until my balance goes.  After that no more serious riding-although I can't say I won't hop (ok maybe not 'hop') on our old horse and wander around a bit!

  • I love Zumba!  I haven't done it in a while with my spotting and lack of energy though.. I need to get back in the habit!

This is me exactly.  I've been sooooooo lazy since the BFP!!  DH is harping on me to work out cause he knows it makes me feel better, but I just don't have any energy!  We have a treadmill so I might try that tomorrow morning.  I'm also getting a prenatal workout DVD from Amazon, but probably not for another few weeks.

  • I am a runner and I plan to continue my routine as long as I can. I run an average of 3 miles per day, 2 - 4 times a week. I hope to be able to keep this up during 1st and 2nd tri. I hope my energy levels allow me to do it. I also enjoy yoga. I haven't practiced any in quite some time. I love Jillian Michaels' Yoga Meltdown. I'd love to do prenatal yoga. Something else that I've always wanted to do is take a spin class. I think spin is safe for pregnancy. I plan to consult my RE about exercise now and in the future.

We have an elliptical at home. I'm going to make an effort to get on it, even if it's for just a few minutes. I'm barely awake all.the.time.
