interviewing while preg?

I saw 2 jobs that fit me good on craigslist, and applied.  I had wanted to hold off until back from maternity leave, but the opportunity seemed great.

I got a call this morning (while in our staff meeting!) to set up an interview for Tuesday or Wednesday this week.

I did not mention in my coverletter I was 6 months preg.  How do I approach the supbject?  Tell the HR lady when I call her back to schedule or wait until I go in for the interview?

I seem to remember a bumpie here that got a new job while pregnant?

Any tips would be appreciated.

ETA: I am set up for an interview Wednesday at 9

  • I don't have any advice, but GL! I think it was pink dutch tulips that interviewed while PG and got the job? Also we-love-to try, if my memory is correct.

  • i was 5 1/2 months pg when i interviewed and 7 months when i actually started. i wasn't showing yet (looked more like a tall fat girl than a tall pg girl) so it was a non issue at the interview. if i had been showing i would have told them that i WOULD be coming back to work after a short mat. leave.

however, when they offered me the position, that's when i told them that i would be needing to take 6-8 wks off the middle of july b/c that's when i'm due to give birth. they agreed to the leave and it was worked into my revised offer letter.

i don't see any harm in looking or interviewing for that matter while pg - the important thing is be upfront w/ them and what YOUR expectations & plans are so everyone (employer and employee) are on the same page.

  • I wouldn't say anything. First of all, pregnancy should not be a consideration in being hired or not: it's illegal. If you're showing, let that speak for itself. If not, I'd bring it up when you're negotiating your starting date.

I'm showing, there is no way of hiding my bump and I'm due in July (pretty soon.)

Exactly what Ava said. I had an interview when I was pg with DS. I don't remember how far along I was, but I was in the "is she or isn't she" phase for sure. I didn't say a thing about it, and ended up being offered the job. Good luck to you!
