30 Day Shred questions...

I've just started last week and am on Level 1, Day 3. I'm really feeling it in my thighs and am so enjoying the workout. I realize that i'm only a few days in, but here are my questions:

I don't seem to be feeling the impact in my biceps and abs as much as I think I should. Do different levels challenge those areas more?

If you run/jog also, how often? I can't seem to figure out how to incorporate this with the program.

Did anyone move up from 3lb weights to 5lb weights? I'm so used to carrying DS around (who's well over 18lbs now) and find that the 3lb weights aren't doing it...

Any answers/advice are much appreciated!

Good for you for doing it!  I just started L3 today.  Wow!!

I think that level 2 works more abs...  I wouldn't say more bicepts though.

I thought that I would run in addition to the shred, a few days a week.  When I have done it, I have suffered from low blood sugar.  After trying L3, there is NO WAY I could run after it.  2 years ago, I did the DVD and I did cardio one day and the shred plus a lighter cardio workout the next

  • I am doing Couch to 5k three times a week and the 30 Day Shred a few days a week. I am really enjoying the Couch to 5k program!

Thanks! That's great to know. Looking forward to L2 and good luck on L3! I usually do 30-45 mintues on the treadmill 3-4 days a week (still working up to longer time) and since starting 30DS wasn't sure what my best bet was. Thanks again for the suggestions.

  • I personally thought the ab portion was lacking in all levels.  I started out using 5 lb weights so I always thought the arm moves were sufficient.  If you are using only 3 lb, you should definitely switch and you'll notice its more challenging.

I did the 30 Day Shred every single day for about 40 days.  I started the C25K program a few days after starting the Shred.  I did that 3x week.  So on those double days, I would go from the dvd straight to the treadmill.  It sucked but I really saw good results.

Great job for making the choice to workout.  Stick with it!

  • I love the 30 Day Shred!  I used it before my wedding to get that last little bit of tone and I felt like it was great, except for the biceps and abs part.  Level 2 does a better job with arms, but I'd definitely recommend moving up with weights.  I often switch out between 5 lb and 8 lb weights depending on the exercise (shoulder presses can be a higher weight, but I cannot do those v-fly things with 8 lbs for the life of me), so don't be afraid to try that.  She's right that you can't expect to burn calories by just doing biceps, but I did extras just for the tone and it worked great.

I've been running on and off (trying to get back on track), and I haven't had any problems running on the same day as doing the DVD, but I have to do one exercise in the morning and another at night - after those exercises I can't get in a solid run.

I hope you like the DVD as much as it seems we all did!

  • I would up the weight and maybe do a few more reps later.
