Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Due date question

I am from third tri. board. I have been wondering something recently...

If you go earlier or later than your due date, is it because your date of conception was off? Or, can your date of conception be very accurate (like if you charted and know when it happened) and still go with in two weeks on either side of your due date?

Sorry if this is silly- but I have been wondering this all along!! Thanks!

Re: Due date question

  • I am 100% sure of my date of conception.  My due date was July 9th.... and my two u/s had me measuring 1 day ahead.  I ended up having him 3.5 weeks early.  So I think anything goes.

  • like pp said,  anything goes.  you can be sure of your date of conception and have a correct due date but if that baby is coming early,  then so be it. a due date is just a number.  babies come when your body is ready.  that doesn't mean it will be exactly 40 weeks when they come out.
  • Thank you! That is what I thought, but didn't know if I was right or not! I love posting here because your babies are do darn cute! :)

  • anything goes.  i'm 100% certain of my due date, but was a week and a day past my due date.  and i measured a month ahead the entire pregnancy.

it's a lot like weather, you make your best prediction and then see what happens.

  • I am 100% sure of my date of conception (we were using a CBEFM) and I went three weeks early.  It really has very little to do with your conception date and more to do with the variables of your pregnancy.  The Dr. who delivered my daughter told me that it was nothing short of miraculous that I went when I did - my body did what it needed to do as my pelvis is narrow and pointy and had she been any bigger, I would've needed a c-section (not that I was against a c-section - I just wanted her to get her as safely as possible).  I actually would've gone sooner had I not been on anti-contrax meds for two weeks.
  • I think everyone is different and unfortunately you never know wehre you might fall in that category of early or late.

I also am 100% sure of conception date and i alwasy measured to the day of my due date and went into labor exactly 2 weeks before my due date.  GL!!

  • I'm absolutely sure of our conception date (we charted). DS came 11 days late.

  • Due dates are just an estimate. Babies aren't "supposed" to be born at 40 weeks, that's just an average. Anything between 37 and 42 weeks is full term.
