White Noise Machines

We've used a white noise machine with Madelyn and since Will is going to move into his own room soon, I'd like to do the same.

With Mads, I happened to have an extra iPod since I upgraded - and so I just got a docking station and use that.

I'm not going out to buy a new iPod and docking station. I thought about getting a plain ole boom box type radio/cd player and just burning the white noise playlist we use - but it seems they don't actually sell those much anymore.

So - I'm thinking perhaps about getting a white noise machine.

Recommendations? Specifically, I want one that has a true white noise and one that doesn't automatically turn off. It's okay if it has an auto off option - just that I can leave it playing till I turn it off myself. I can't seem to be able to tell from Amazon if they have that option.

Brookstone has good ones. We have an ipodiPod dock that is a radio/alarm clock and has nature sounds/white noise. In our room we use an air purifier or fan.

We have an older model of this. MIL brought it over one day and I just love it. We usually have a different CD that we put in every night, classical music or lullabies or stories. But, it also have a couple of nature sounds (whales, water, etc) that you can turn on. Or, just the radio. It has been awesome.

We have the Homedics Sound Spa Lullaby. It has both the regular white noise and lullaby sounds. It also has a projector with three different discs. Max loves the "fishies" and the "moon stars" on the ceiling. I love that the ocean sounds drown out all the noise we make in the house! It has helped his sleep tremendously!

We have these in each kids room. I just use a fan in my room. Anyway this one is usually under $20 at bed bath and beyond type places.

Oh it has a timer but you don't have to use it. So ours are always on. Plus they're small an easy to take on vacation.

We've never done white noise, but have a CD player in their room. Every night I play the same CD (a rockabye baby one) once through and it turns off afterwards. DH and I call it our baby crack CD because we take it on road trips and vacations and it soothes them right to sleep....total Pavlovian response.

This one is amazing, doesn't auto turn off and has the option for MP3 jack if wanted. Really good white noise sounds and volume. It also has a night light on top...

We just use a fan--white noise and SIDS risk reduction all in one!

This reminds me I need to find a nice loud one for the baby's room....
