High-Risk Pregnancy

Tell me about the generic Lovenox.

It's not a surprise to me that I was put on Lovenox for this pregnancy. But now they have the generic verson, which I am going to try. Have anyone come across any issues with it?? I read that someone said the needles weren't as sturdy...True Or not true? The Dr hasn't heard anything like that so,now i'm curious...TIA!

Re: Tell me about the generic Lovenox.

  • I have not noticed a difference in the needles.  I do feel like it stings more though.  But overall it is fine and worth the huge savings I am getting...

  • I haven't noticed a difference. If I recall correctly, my insurance wanted to charge me over $500 a month for the brand name, and I only pay $5 for the generic. A no-brainer for me, once my hemo gave me the ok.

  • I'm def not complaining about the huge discount! lol I actually didn't have it to horrible last time because my ins picked up the bulk of it, I only had to pay 40 dollars for the month, but with this I'll only be paying 10.00. I just don't want to go to them, and lose quality. My hemo also ok'd them, so I'm just checking out what others had to say. I don't get them until tomorrow, so I was curious to see what you the word on them was :)

  • There was a problem with the needles that was causing them to trigger if they were jostled or dropped or moved oddly, which meant you weren't able to get at the medicine in the syringe since the safety sheath had come down over the needle. But the manufacturer fixed that issue and I haven't had a single complaint about the generics since that happened.

  • The generic does seem to sting more and the needles at this point are getting harder to go in, but other than that no differences between it and actual Lovenox.

I had this problem the closer I got to my due date with Baby number 2. It was awful!

  • I've only ever used the generic version, so i can't compare it to Lovenox. Thanks Aetna!

Anywho...never found an issue with sturdiness of the needles. I've heard it stings more, but I don't have anything to personally compare it to.

Oh, and I do agree about it getting harder to jab in now that third tri is here and my belly fat pockets are gone.

  • The needles don't go in quite as smoothly(made me wonder if they weren't quite as sharp/smooth, since they "catch" a bit on the way in) is the main difference I've noticed, negative-wise.  OTOH, I've had a lot less bruising overall with the generic than with the brand-name, so it balances out.  I had some nasty-looking palm-sized surface bruises that first month or so before I switched over, and while I still get bruises on occasion they don't look nearly as bad, and they're a lot smaller...which is good, since it's gotten harder to see where I'm sticking the needle.Wink  I think the generic might sting a bit less on me than the brand-name, but that can vary so much from injection to injection that I couldn't say for certain.
