My friend has the VW Jetta TDI wagon (basically the exact same car as the Audi A3) and loves it. I think it is okay and lacking a little extras in the interior.
We looked into a Volvo wagon and a Subaru Outback...we found a lot of wagons and small SUV's have very small backseats. The backseat being small is a big issue if you plan on having another baby in a few years. There is no way we could get 2 RF'ing car seats in a lot of these cars (or even one RF'ing carseat behind the drive or passenger). We own a Subaru Forester and we don't bring the kids in it because it's incredibly uncomfortable.
We ended up going with a Toyota Highlander...bigger than we originally planned, but a ton of space for everything.
Just something to think about...bring your car seats along to test!
The A3 wagons are pretty stinkin' cute though.

I looked at the A3 but ended up with a Volvo V50 instead. I LOVE it and I feel like it has plenty of trunk space--there's certainly enough space to fit our gigantic bumbleride stroller plus groceries, etc. I also looked at a volvo V70 and XC70 (the cross country wagon) and I like the V50 so much better--it's very sleek and sporty compared to the larger Volvo wagons, but much roomier than the Audi A3.
I was on the Audi lot looking at the Q7, but peeked in the A3 wagons interior and it's really, really small. No way would my convertible seat would fit. On another note, the Q7 is great. We are getting one this weekend.
You will love the Q7, I drove one for the past three years, but decided that I wanted something smaller. I looked into the Q5, but I felt it was lacking, ended up with a Cadillac SRX.
We had the Nissan Rogue - and loved it. If I just had DD with no pets I would be keeping it. Since I have DD plus a 60 lb dog - I needed something bigger. We just leased the 2011 Dodge Durango. My DH loves it. I will make up my mind this weekend on a long car ride to SW PA.

Ok- this is good info. My husband has a Volvo SUV and it's pretty big- maybe i should see if HE wants a new car and I will just take over driving the Volvo? I didn't realize how small these are. We do not plan on more kids in the near future, but who knows if things will change- I'd hate for a car to be the deciding factor on expanding our family, HAHA!
Thank you all for the insight- I'm shopping around a bit and will mention to my husband about the switch...I'm not sure he'll go for it though, he loves his car.
I have a Audi A5 ultra sport addition. I had it before we had the baby and it's not a great family car. I am looking to get something bigger too and will NOT get another Audi. While it's a great ride and lots of nice features there is always some electrical issue with it. I have had to have it towed 3x's in 3 years with some sort of computer malfunction, battery issue, electric for a side mirror wasn't working, sunroof wasn't sliding shut without terrible squeaking, randomly the nice Bose system will only work through some of the speakers, ect, ect.... IMO, if you are in the this price range I would go with a Mercedes. Happy car shopping!

The A3 trunk is pretty small. We have a BMW X3 and a Mini Cooper (which I do use with the baby), but the X3 has pretty good room.
For a wagon, a Subaru's trunk will be much bigger.
