spanx

Zulily has spanx today so I'm going to get some that I've been eyeing but if you have them or have worn them I have a question:
Do they make you "bludge" around the edges?  Will it only push my muffin top to under my bra or will it flatten it completely?

What about the butt?  Does it just squish out the to the edges?

Re: spanx

  • I tried spanx once and it was awful! They ended up coming up around part of my ribcage and by the time I got to work I thought I would actually end up with bruises! It hurt to breathe. I took them off and threw them away. I hated seeing money go down the drain like that as they are expensive, but they held me in so tight it wasn't worth the agony.

Yikes! That sounds awful! I wear them when I have to wear a nice dress and I want to "hold it all in". I didn't have the same problems as dmoreilly, as I thought they were actually more comfortable than other shape wear I've used. Mine did not feel that tight or cause me any pain. I too bought the kind that goes up to your ribcage. It felt weird at first because I'm not used to things going that high, but I got used to it after a while. The only thing I did notice is by the end of the night the top part did roll down and it annoyed me. Compared to other shape wear I had less of problem with it causing a "roll". It seemed to have good coverage and kept things in.

None of the kinds I wear are on sale - I like the shorts length that goes up to my ribcage.  Occasionally the back will slip down a little bit over the day, but I think that's because my back fat likes to win the battle.  When it's all said and done I'd rather have a little below bra bulge in the back than lumps and bumps everywhere else.

This!  I love my Spanx!  I actually find mine pretty comfortable.  I have tried many different shapers and Spanx are by far the best coverage.  If I were going to buy one of those pairs I would definitely get one that comes up to the ribcage. But it just really depends on what you are trying to slim down as to which one you should get.

I think you may have gotten the wrong size.  I've never worn Spanx, other than to try them on when I worked in Lingerie at Nordstrom, but all of by customers LOVED them.  It can be hard to figure out which is best since they come just in Small, Medium, Large and such.  When you put them on they should be a little snug (as they will stretch over time), but they should never be uncomfortable.

The most popular style I sold was the kind PP described, kind of a little "booty short" to make your butt look nice, and then all the way up to the rib cage (you can actually use little straps to attach it to your bra to help prevent the "slip down") and that helps keep lines all nice and smooth.

  • I actually wore Spanx for the entire day on my wedding day and had no issues.  I have the Higher Power Panties, which are are the shorts that go up the ribcage.  I was comfortable all day and they barely moved.  Before Spanx, I had bought the Kohl's knock-off version and wore them to a wedding. It rolled down on me all day and I finally left them rolled at my waist when I got sick of readjusting.  But I've worn the Spanx another time since the wedding, and with a bra this time (wedding dress had built-in corset) and had no issues.  I think they're comfortable and do a good job as shape wear.

I agree that you are best to get the ones that go up your ribcage.   I think if I were to wear Spanx that just stop at my waist, I might end up with a bulge above the waistline.  But having them come up to the ribcage seems to help even out the lines without a real bulge on top.

Must be just me. I got a size larger than I normally wear as I didn't want to be too squished, but still had an awful experience. And I live in control top nylons/tights so am used to being held in. The Spanx were just too much holding for me.

All of that.  Attaching it to your bra keeps it up.  Everything stays in place and the shrinking power of those things is amazing.

  • I have a pair and although I don't wear it a ton (I prob should!) I super love them. This is reminding me to pack them for our trip this week -- no lumps for Easter!

  • I saw this on Zulily and really wanted some but they didn't have what I wanted in a size big enough for me.  But they did have size small.  Do girls that small even need them?
