Why won't he sleep?

Our little guy will be 8 weeks this coming Wednesday.  I realize that babies cry and fuss.  I get it, and can deal with it.  Aren't they suppose to sleep in there somewhere too though?  Peter fights sleep like it's an olympic sport.  Anyone else have a LO that refuses to go to sleep?  What tricks work for you?  Right now we stick him in the car and drive around for a bit which helps, but we can only aimlessly drive around for so long.

Re: Why won't he sleep?

  • Pretty much the only time my LO cries is when he is tired and if I don't put him somewhere with nothing going on for him to see he will not go to sleep.  I cannot even put him in his car seat and drive around when he is tired that is the place he fights it the most. So I put him in his crib and he cries (his tired cry is more of a fuss or very weak cry that has no energy behind it) for maybe a max of 5 min never longer but definitely less sometimes and he just goes to sleep.

  • My LO cries every time she's sleepy too. I'm trying to figure out what other moms are doing....the ones that say it's wrong to let them 'cry it out'. blaaaaaah.

  • My LO fights it at times to and when it does it can be soo frustrating! At that point I try to wear him out, tummy time, bath time, bottle.

When all else fails I put him in his crib and let him fuss and if he starts to cry I wait a couple mins and he usually stops and passes out. I know they say not to let LO cry it out...but I know his crying isn't a real cry or need. It's a tired cry and he is just fighting sleep.

I always say trial and error! Only you know what is best for your baby and trying a couple times will not scar your baby for life.

  • We have a snap n go stroller, so I've put DD in the car seat and pushed her around the house.  Yes, she likes the car, but the stroller in the house is much more economical since we're not wasting gas.
