Anyone else find Target Circo sizing off?

Yesterday I went to Target because I want to get DD a few pairs of lightweight cotton stretch pants for the spring. I like the pricing of this line and the mix-n-match options. However, I think something is majorly wrong with their sizing.

I was looking for 2T pants and I found some but they looked really long. Then I picked up some other 2T pants that looked really small. On multiple racks, I found 2T pants that were completely different sizes. Some looked like 9 month old pants and some looked like 3T. I even looked at the tags on the pants (not just the hangers) and they were all labeled 2T but they were clearly diferent sizes. I ended up getting the bigger pants hoping that they were the ones that were correctly sized. I got home and compared Circo's 2T to Carter's 2T and some other brand's 2T that I had. All of the Circo 2T pants were about 4 inches longer than the other brands which makes me think they were actually 3T or 4T.

Then I remembered when DD was a baby and I bought some 9 mo. sized Circo items and the sizing was way too small so I had to return them.

I'm just wondering - has anyone else had problems with Circo's sizing? I would really like to buy that brand because Target is conveniently located near my work and I like the price and styles. However, it's going to be a PITA if I have to keep returning stuff because their sizing is off.

  • In my experience, the pants are always on the long side (as you experienced) and the shirts are always on the small side in comparison to Carters, so I buy accordingly for my long-waisted, average-to-small-size legged DD#1.

  • Someone gave us a onesie from there and it was sized really weird. It was barely long enough to snap on the bottom, but it was really baggy everywhere else. It led me to assume that their clothes are designed for short, fat babies. I haven't bought any of their clothes since then, because I just assumed the sizing would be off. M fits into other sizes just fine (Carters, Baby Gap, Gymboree, etc.).

  • The Circo clothes I've bought for DD did run a little small.  I don't think I've gotten pants there, though.  But thanks for mentioning this - I just bought her a Circo swimsuit this weekend, and I guess I should probably see if it fits her before I cut the tags.

  • Okay, I'm glad I'm not crazy then. I think I'm just going to bring a current shirt and pants that fit DD and use those to compare the sizes. I just find it odd that their sizing is so much different than other brands. I also found it weird that some items were clearly mislabeled. I'll give them another shot though.

I love Carter's but I don't have one near me and Kohl's didn't have any Carter's pants in DD's size. So, I'm just trying to find a few pairs of pants to get her through the spring before summer weather hits and she can wear shorts.

On a side note, as I was leaving to go shopping yesterday, DH was teasing me saying how I love to shop for clothes (which I really don't). I told him that if he wants to take over the job of making sure DD has weather-appropriate clothes in each size then he is more than welcome to take over that responsibility. Or, his other option is that he can do laundry every 2-3 days since right now she only has 3 pairs of spring pants. I think men sometimes don't understand how much work is involved in keeping our kids clothed, especially if you are trying to do it on a budget and don't want to spend a ton of money.

Yes! My husband doesn't "get" it either. Trying to find weather appropriate play clothes that are reasonable (cost wise) is tough. My family buys her these beautiful church clothes/dresses/silver shoes that she just doesn't have that many opportunities to wear. (That or maybe I should actually attend more...)

With regards to the Circo stuff, I have only bought shirts, but they have run too small for us. To be fair though I have a LO with a big tummy!

  • J is a skinny boy and he grew out of his Circo NB sleepers about a week before he grew out of other ones (Carters, Gap, Old Navy). I just bought a few things from their mix/match shelves and will be careful to check the sizes.

I agree about DHs not getting it about kid's clothes! DH thinks J has SO many clothes. but I still end up doing laundry almost every day. He hates to do laundry, so it will be entertaining when he's at home and I'm back to work. There were a few things that J didn't wear as a newborn, but that's because he hated having stuff over his head, so he mostly wore sleepers. Now that he's better about having stuff over his head, and it's getting too warm for sleepers all day, we'll go through more onesies, rompers and outfits, I'm sure.

If you're a FB friend, J is wearing the one of his new rompers in the picture I just posted. He looks scrumptious :-)
