So on Friday DH noticed that the toilet in our main bathroom was leaking near the bottom of the tank. Luckily, my brother's best friend is a plumber and owns his own business. We called him up and he said he'd be out first thing Monday since we have another bathroom we can use and he was really busy...no problem! So, while it sucked to have to go downstairs every time I woke up to pee, all in all, not the worst thing.
Fast forward to last night. I was at my mom's and get a frantic call from DH (with SIL freaking out in the background) that there is about 3-4 inches of standing water in the unfinished portion of our basement and it seems to be coming up from the drains in the floor . DH calls our friend again who says stop using all plumbing in the house and he'll still be there first thing in the morning (it was nearly 11:30 and we didn't want him to come out that late).
Next step? DH gets our shopvac out and starts cleaning up the water. Shopvac makes a HORRIBLE sound and water starts coming back out. Obviously, DH is beyond aggravated at this point. He's trying really hard not to yell and just heads out the garage through the basement to set the shopvac on the curb since trash pickup was this morning. That's when I hear the loud crash. I run to the garage to find DH holding the door up with his shoulder, one of the panels broken and laying on the ground. I'm not 100% sure how it happened, but he's cut and not happy and the garage door now has to be replaced.
So DH borrowed a shopvac from my dad (my parents thankfully live about 2 miles away) and cleaned up all of the water then took a shower at my parents' and went home. I stayed at my parents' so I could have restroom all night. Our friend comes today and lets us know that our plumbing is old and was laid incorrectly...he's shocked this is the first time we've had the basement flood. He spends 2 hours with a helper fixing everything and then refuses to let us pay him. He's like a brother to me and I don't want him to lose money (he has to pay his helper after all) so we're mailing him a check!
DH called and filled me in so I'm thinking it could have been a lot worse and we should count our blessings. Then my OB's office shows up on caller ID so I hang up with DH. Turns out that my OB's DH died suddenly over the weekend so they need to reschedule my appointment for this afternoon. First and foremost, I feel awful for my OB, I cannot begin to imagine what she is going through.
However, since I'm 38 weeks they still want to see me today and the other OB is the only one in the whole practice that we don't really feel comfortable with. You may remember that she is the one that failed to tell us about LO's choroid plexus cyst during our anatomy scan. But, we don't really have a choice because I've been having irregular contractions all weekend and they don't want us to wait even another day to be checked.
So, I'm thinking with everything that happened this weekend (not the affect I was hoping for from the full moon) it can only get better right? I've at least got to be further dilated...I really hope so...
Thanks for reading this far, just needed to get all of that off of my chest and any dilation vibes you ladies could send would be MUCH appreciated!!!
Re: It's gotta get better (kinda PAIFR and long)
Well, your attitude is great. I probably would have had a total meltdown.
I hope everything goes well with your appointment today.
It's a bummer you won't be able to see your OB today, but I still wish you luck!
Yikes!! I'm glad to hear that your house is restored to working order, and that you were able to get what you needed without breakin the bank!!
Here's hoping that your OB appointment today goes well, and that the OB you don't like is having a good day, and gives you all good news!!! I'll be thinking of you...
oh my goodness. That is a crazy weekend! You have a great attiutde about it though, keep up with the positve thoughts. I hope everything goes well at your OB appt today and you are more dialated.
Wow all of that completely sucks! You are handling this so much better than I would. I think at this point I would just sit down and cry...LOL!
I'm sure the appt this afternoon will go fabulously because you are definitely due a good turn.
