Restless sleep...anyone else?

I know that during the last trimester its normal for us to have a hard time sleeping and staying asleep and getting comfortable.  I haven't had this problem at all until now.  I wake up after a few hours feeling like I can't get comfortable...almost like I have to keep moving around.  I hate that restless feeling.  Is anyone else going through this?  If you are experiencing this, are you taking anything to relax?  I'm a little scared to take Tylenol PM but I just need a good night's sleep!!!!!!!

Re: Restless sleep...anyone else?

  • Im the same way. I toss and turn from side to side all night. And get up 3-4 times to potty. My OB told me to take benedryl and it seems to be working somewhat. I atleast get a good 4 hours before I wake up and start tossing.

  • Same.  My OB suggesed Benedryl as well.  That was NOT working (and my BP was getting higher and higher) so he prescribed me some Ambien.  I was afraid at first, but it has put me back on a sleep schedule after only a couple nights of half pills.

  • I couldnt sleep during second tri, i took tylenol pm, all it technically is, is tylenol and benedryl. Its considered safe to take, if you want to. I am having trouble with my arms falling asleep and charlie horses. and i cant really take sleep aids because i have my 3yo in my room with me (staying with my parents for a time) so i dont think i would hear him if he woke up from a night mare or something.

i hope it gets better, and you can find something to help you!

  • I have been having the same problem with tossing and turning all night, and even worse staying up for an hour from 4-5am. I may go buy some tylenol pm tomorrow after reading this thread. Mama is a grouchy beast these days.

This....since 20 weeks due to a pregnancy rash.  I am now on prescription meds for sleep/anti-itching.  tylonel PM would be fine.

  • I know it sounds weird, but lavender scented hand lotion knocks me out. We accidentally discovered it and the lavender vanilla lotion from Bath and Body Works is amazing. I put a little on my arms and hands and DH rubs it on my back and I am OUT. Before we found this out, I was tossing and turning and waking up every few hours. Try it. Drug free.
  • So, I bit my lip the other night while I was watching Bones with DH; it was a particularly good episode!  I managed to get some bacteria in the open bite and my lip swelled up to the size of what feels like a balloon!!!  Then the bacteria affected my gums as well when I brushed too hard so those are killing me as well.  DH has known how miserable I've been feeling so he brought home some flowers for me today.  It was really sweet but I still feel like complete crap :(  Sorry my post is so gross :(

  • I sleep for 3-4 hours when I go to bed, but after that, I'm usually up about every hour either because I'm uncomfortable and have to switch sides or because I'm unbelievably thirsty or (because I drink a ton of water every hour when I'm thirsty) to pee.  I tried Benadryl, but it dried me out even more, so didn't really help.  I've just given up hope of sleeping for any amount of time and just roll with it.  Sorry  :(

  • It's been like this for a while for me...and it suuuuuuuuuucks!  LOL  I guess it's Mother Nature's way of preparing us for what's to come!

I won't take any meds though....I managed to avoid taking anything, (except Tums, if that even counts), this whole time so I'm just gonna stick it out.

  • I only sleep about 5 hours a night right now, but I take a nap in the afternoon. In those 5 hours I tend to wake up at least once to go to the bathroom, and at least twice to roll over (which is very painful and wakes me up each time- but my arm is going numb). Last night I got the added surprise of waking up because I was so congested I couldn't breathe and ended up vomiting- YAH!Stick out tongue

And at my shower on Saturday everyone thought I was insane because I didn't "LOVE" being pregnant (somehow all the other women there LOVED it).

  • I totally get it! Wake up every few hours to roll to the other side because the one I am on is getting achy. And then I have to pee because I moved. I seem to fall back asleep after, but it makes for a hard day ahead. I have not been taking anything.. yet!

  • First of all let me say how JEALOUS I am of all of you that sleep for 3-4 hours at a time, you lucky ladies!!! I wake up every hour on the hour to go to the bathroom at night. Sometimes I am waking up because I have to pee and other times I'm waking up because I'm uncomfortable (then I just pee cuz I'm up!). The think the longest consecutive sleep I've gotten has been 2 hours. This has been going on for me since some time in the 2nd trimester but has been consistent (every night) for atleast the last 6 weeks. I have always been an insomniac but this is crazy! I was actually on some pretty strong meds prior to pregnancy to help me sleep but haven't been able to take them as they are harmful to LO. I can't wait til I can take them again!

The amazing thing is that I actually feel rested in the morning. The occasional afternoon nap helps, too!

  • I have quite the routine.

I start in bed (about 2 hours). Then I get up to pee and transfer to the lazy-boy (about 2 hours). Then I get up to pee again and decide between the lazy-boy again or the couch (about 2 hours).  Then I wake up to pee again and head back to bed to snuggle with H before he goes to work (about 2 hours).
