OMG, annoying but I need a wwyd please

This is such a dead horse but I am at a loss.

Alex has had a fever for a WEEK.  Last night as the motrin was wearing off he was up to 102.1 again.  They've been saying virus virus virus no treatment.  Finally yesterday evening I had it, called the pedi on call and she arranged for me to bring Alex in for a full panel of testing (blood urine, electrolytes, etc).

Of course this morning he wakes up and he has no temp.  I gave him motrin at midnight so it's been almost 8 hours.

Would you take him in?

AND- we were supposed to be at my parent's house in the bay area yesterday-Wednesday (it's our spring break).  We were going to go today and stay 2 nights IF he was better.  Would you go?

If we do go, we will be totally laying LOW.

I'm just terrified this fever will come back and that something is really wrong.  But no sense in taking him in and running unnecessary tests, right?!?

And it's not like it's that far away if he does get sick again... I could have him back to the office in 90 minutes.

Ok.  WWYD?

  • If it were me, I would still have the tests done for my own peace of mind.

I'd also still go to my folks for the two nights, knowing that they aren't too far away and we could be back in a snap and we'd be laying low with Grandma and Papa, not running around town. Also, I'd go on my insurance's website or call the Member line and ask about an Urgent Care in my folk's area, just to be on the safe side in case we'd needed it.

  • I would call the Dr and exsplain. Maybe she can order the blood tests and email you or fax you the lab slip but you only take it to the lab and do it if Alex's fever returns this week.

  • I'm just catching up on your other posts, but, yes I'd still take him in. The bug we just recently endured left us with fevers (up to 103.5) for 8 days. Motrin would bring it down but it would shoot up once it wore off. It may started out viral for us but both boys had ear infections and I had an upper respiratory infection. I hope you get some answers soon!
  • I made an appointment for 10:45.

He seems ok but I think the temp will shoot up again.

I have never ever really felt like I want to up and walk away from my life but today, I'm there.  I have no idea what to do and I just want someone else to tell me.  This sucks, it sucks so bad.

  • I would go and have him tested (as long as none of the tests are very invasive) I'd still decline the chest film without something else to indicate the need.

I'd also go to your parent's

  • As I started reading this post, my first thought was "it's time for some labs". And yes, go to your parents- they can help you out and give you a little much needed break. I'm hoping all of this goes away very soon.

This is what I would do. Hope it's over soon so you can enjoy Spring Break!
