AW- We officially no longer bed share :)

After 2 rough nights transitioning him into his pack n play in our room, he slept from 11-4 in his pnp, fell back to sleep at 4:15 and has been sleeping since :-) He started to roll in his sleep so I wasn't comfortable with him sleeping with us anymore. The odd thing is, to get him to do it, I loosely swaddled him & he's sleeping so soundly in there now it's unbelievable! He hasn't liked to be swaddled beside me though for 3 months! I even heard him wake up and put himself back to sleep which, for my kid is a miracle. Question: Is anyone still swaddling their bigger kid & what are you using? Any wisdom on how long I should keep swaddling him?

  • congrats on the PnP sleeping!  as far as swaddling.. I stopped a few weeks ago because E was rolling around and busting out of it left and right and my pedi said that once they hit 3 or 4 months and they really get used to being swaddled it's way harder to break them from it.  we used the Aden and Anais swaddle blankets.. they're nice because they're huge and lightweight.  maybe since you're already only loosely swaddling you can just keep loosening each night until he doesn't need it anymore? one transition at a time, I guess. good luck!

  • Good idea about slowly getting him out of it- I think I'll do that :) The light receiving blanket I'm using is big enough that it will work for a while. I'll worry about starting it once he's consistently sleeping well in there. Thanks!

  • Woo hoo! Go Law! Your bed to the PnP is a big step! Maybe the swaddle just helps him feel cozy now that he's by himself? Whatever works!

We swaddled Charlie up until a few weeks ago and were using the Halo sleepsack with swaddle. Since it velcros, you can swaddle loosely without the wings coming apart and them busting out. With a blanket, it can come apart or God forbid, creep up around their face. For a while there, Charlie was able to move his arms around inside the swaddle, but still felt contained. They make it in the small size (10lbs to 18lbs), which was plenty big for Charlie. If its looking like it'll help him transition, you're more than welcome to borrow one of our sleepsacks (we've got three).

  • Hooray for Law for giving you some rest!

A has never been swaddled, he was busting out of it in the hospital and would scream bloody murder if we even attempted it, luckily he doesn't wake himself with flailing limbs or anything or it would have been a verrry long 4 months. ;)

Can you try just swaddling him lightly until he seems to be well established in his sleep routine and then slowly loosen the swaddle each night until he doesn't need it anymore?
