Anyone pPROM and go past 34 weeks?

My water broke at 32 weeks exactly, and I've been in the hospital on bedrest and being monitored for the last 12 days. I will be 34 weeks on Monday, and my doctor wants to induce me then because he states that the risks of infection outweigh the risks of prematurity at that point. LO has been active and all my NSTs (3 per day) have come back normal. I had contractions the first night I was here, but nothing other than the occasional BH contraction since then.

I would love to keep her in a little longer if we're both doing well, but my doctor seems pretty set on Monday being the day she comes out.

I was just wondering what others' experiences have been and if 34 weeks is the standard for delivery with pPROM (if you haven't already delivered by that point).

When I had my daughter my OB told me they used to let mom's go until 36 weeks if there were no other complications, but then new studies showed 34 weeks was a better time. I was induced at 34 weeks, but that was after 10 weeks of hospital bedrest. I was READY to have my baby. I think if the situation was different, I may have asked if I could put it off another week. Have you talked about it with your OB?

Wow, 10 weeks, that's amazing. I've only been here two weeks and I'm already going stir-crazy. I want to get out of here and go home, but I keep thinking that it's better for LO to be growing inside of me than out at this stage. I have discussed it with my doctor, and he just keeps saying that it's better for her to come out at this point because of the risk of infection. I trust him, but I just wondered if that was the standard for all pPROM situations.

I was under the care of midwives, with consulting OBs due to my pPROM, and I pPROMed at 34w3d and was under expectant management from that point on. I received antibiotics and the goal was go get me to 35.5 weeks - 36 weeks. I went crazy at 35w2d, for no reason other than I was scared, and talked to the consulting OBs who agreed we could induce. They would have gone to 36 had I not pushed it, but I was pretty worried about infection.

I went through a similar experience. My water broke at 33w4d. I was in the hospital on bedrest to make it to 34 weeks. Like you, I didn't have any contractions. As you mentioned, the doctor felt the risk of infection outweighed the risk of prematurity. I had a c-section the morning I turned 34 weeks.

pPROM at 34w3 days and I just went into labor - docs didn't do anything to try and stop me. I was very concerned about having him early but the doctor didn't seem worried at all (I know that it's his job). I think that since they deliver babies so early - like mirco premies their concerns change at 34 weeks now.

My water broke at 33w6d and when I got to the hospital, the original plan was to induce me either later that day or the next if I didn't go into labor on my own (which I think I would have, I was having regular, small contractions by the time we got to the hospital). I was told the same thing as you, risk of infection outweighs prematurity risks by 34 weeks. Ultimately, DD was in distress, so we ended up with an emergency C-section, but after that she did fairly well. She spent 16 days in the NICU as a feeder/grower and did not need oxygen support. GL!
