Does anyone have a rainbow play system? opinions please!

Grandpa bought the kiddos one for their birthdays (joint present) and I need to decide TODAY between 2 models...Being that it is a fairly permanent structure in our yard for at least the next decade, I want to make the right choice :)

either the original rainbow castle:

or the turbo sunshine castle:

They are basically the same - have all the same features except the 1st one has an 11ft slide, 2nd one has a 10ft slide, and the 1st one has a 5ft8inch deck height where as the 2nd one has a 5ft2in deck height...

My husband likes the 1st one (taller one) - I am wondering how I feel about the deck height being even taller than me though - is that TOO tall for little ones? My husband reminds me they will not be so little forever, but I also don't foresee kids playing on something like this past 11 or 12 yrs old maybe? They both take up the same amount of room in our yard...and the price does not matter to Grandpa so it really comes down to height of platform and an extra foot or not of slide.

Opinions please? Thanks so much! FWIW - DS is almost 1 and DD is 3. It will come with 2 regular swings we can swap out later, a baby bucket swing, and a toddler half-bucket swing. We also opted to get rid of the ball on the rope and get a glider instead.

  • My opinion isn't based on experiene, but I vote for the shorter one. If you're kids were older when it's going to be new and novel the taller would make sense, but sense they are still little I'd go shorter if it was me. What a sweet gift! We are considering one in a fee years if we ever buy a house.

  • We got this one last year and it is a good height for M, now and plenty for him to grow into.  Iam not sure what the deck height is, around 5' I would guess.

  • Thanks for the input - that is what my gut was telling me (smaller one) and this reassures me :)
  • We have one on the playground at our school, and it's definitely not 5'8" - some of the 11-year-olds (who are my height) have to duck under it to play. They don't seem to mind and are hanging/jumping/swinging off of it all the time!  I'd go with the shorter one.
