VBAC

VBAC question...

I had a very bad pregnancy last year. And it ended with me going comepletly under and a c section...well my son is 5 months old, and i just found out 3 days ago, im pregnant again. ( and yes - i was using birth control...nuva ring)...

Will the doctor even considering letting me try to have a natural birth this time around?

Re: VBAC question...

  • You need to ask your doctor. Different doctors have VERY different policies about this. I know there's a mama on here who had her VBAC 13 months after her c/s and others have been told they need at least 18 or 24 months. The only person who can answer this question is your doctor.

  • Congrats!  You'll have to search for a willing provider, but I don't think it's impossible.

  • I agree that you might have to search for a willing provider, but it's not impossible. I would start w/your local ICAN group for suggestions.

A few things that will impact their decision:  1) the length of time btwn deliveries (most want at least 12 months between, but more often they want about 18 months), 2) the "problems" you had during your pregnancy, and 3) if those problems happen during this pregnancy/or are likely to re-occur w/this pregnancy. Most might given you a tentative ok until you get further along--depending on your problems. I would start my search & be prepared w/your last pregnancy records. GL!

High-risk L&D nurse...If in doubt, go to triage!
