U/S Shows Sac but No Baby

We had our first ultrasound (vaginal) at 6 weeks 2 days on Thursday. We could see only the sac. No baby. Our doctor took blood on Thursday and again this morning to test the hcg levels. We don't find out the results until Monday. This is heartbreaking. Has this happened to anyone else? I am trying to be cautiously optimistic but am truly scared and nervous. I've done some research online and am worried this could be a blighted ovum. Any feedback is appreciated. Thank you.

I am sorry for the scary news. Is there anyway that your are off on your dates? I had a blighted ovum last month. At 7 weeks they only saw the sac but no yolk sac or fetal pole. Also my HCG numbers were not rising like they were supposed to. They did another ultrasound a week later and confirmed the BO. I really hope that your dates are just possibly off, however if you are sure on your dates at 6 weeks 2 days you should be able to see something inside the sac.

I am so sorry you are going through this. As you are still early, I would wait to hear what the doctor says. My doctor said that before 6w they usually only see an empty sac. The fetal pole and yolk sac aren't usually visible until after 6w. I had my first ultrasound at 9w 3d and they saw an empty sac and nothing else. I had to wait two weeks before going back for a second ultrasound. My doctor confirmed a blighted ovum at 11w 2d. I chose to have a d&c two days later.

I am so sorry for what you are going through , you can't do anything but speculate until tomm and that just stinks , but when i was pg 4 days made all the difference in the world , so you never know . I was in a similiar situation , between 51/2 weeks and 61/2 weeks . I went to dr on a mon and there was just the sac i went back on that thurs and there was a baby . I misscarried 3 months later but that part doesnt effect the previous.

Nothing we can say is going to calm you , but i wish you the best and we are here for you . Good luck tomm .

I'm currently in the same waiting pattern that you are. However, I don't know what they did or didn't see. I have a follow up appointment on Tuesday.

I had the same thing about a month ago. All my symptoms had been so strong, but they had started to decrease around 8 weeks. It is possible that the dates are off, but more than likely it's a blighted ovum. Sorry. Everyone got my hopes up when I posted, which was nice, but it made it quite a bit harder. I hope you find an answer soon. The waiting game of pregnancy is the worst.
