High-Risk Pregnancy

Started insulin yesterday...

and it wasn't bad at all! thanks for all your support!

i met with my diabetes counselor and she gave me samples of the pen, needles and alcohol swabs -- enough to use for 2 weeks.

they started me at 8 units at bedtime and i injected myself for the first time last night. you guys were right...i didn't feel a thing. even after a month, the finger pricks still hurt a bit...but the insulin shot was no pain at all.

and best of all...my fasting number this morning was normal! yay, relief!

  • I'm glad it's going well and working so quickly for you! It really is a lot less scary once you've done it a few times :)

  • I'm glad it went well!  I was so nervous at first- but now I don't think much about it.  Don't freak out, if it does hurt one night.  There are some spots that I hit that really hurt- not unbearable of course!  Just a sting....but it always shocks me and its almost a reflex to pull it back out.

  • Not to mention you probably FELT better a) because you knew numbers were better for baby and b) because when hyperglycemic...I was THAT much more tired.  I always have more energy when my sugars are controlled.

  • That's awesome, Romil!  I'm glad it wasn't as scary or painful as you thought it was going to be.

Surprisingly, I've actually felt super tired since I started the insulin (was feeling fine before, but my numbers were that high - just slightly over the range). My numbers have been much lower than before, but still well within normal range.

I'm only taking 8 units at bedtime, but it's lowered not only my fasting #'s but also my after breakfast & lunch....but my dinner numbers now seem to be higher.

I'm going to call my diabetes counselor tomorrow and see what she says.
