Babies: 0 - 3 Months

My 1 month old was in close contact with shingles! Help!

Is my 1 month old at risk of chickenpox?

So I have been living with my parents the past few months because I came to the States to have our baby...we are scheduled to leave on Wednesday to go back overseas... my mom now has shingles (and is supposed to fly back with us as well) and has been helping take care of my 2 year old and 1 month old!  My 2 year old hasn't had chickenpox but has had the vaccine.  Of course I'm more concerned about the 1 month old and we live in a 3rd world country where medical care isn't stellar so I wouldn't want them to get it while we are living over there...aaaah what do I do?!  I have to call the pedi tomorrow to ask their opinion but curious what you all think.

  • DH's grandfather was in contact with our LO when he had shingles about a month ago (he didn't realize he had shingles at the time). Our ped said that as long as she wasn't in contact with an open sore then she is fine.

  • I had shingles when my oldest son was 9 months old.  our pedi also said that he would be fine as long as he didn't have direct contact with the actual shingles.  i continued to bf him and everything and he was fine.

  • thanks so much, that makes me feel a lot better!
  • Have you had chickenpox?  If you are immune you passed some of those immunities on to baby.
