WWIFVD? Funeral and business trip (update)

Update:  Thanks ladies, it looks like it might be Wednesday now which is good. 

My grandfather passed away tonight rather suddenly.  He had been ill, but not terminal, so we obviously weren't planning having a funeral next week.

I just left my FT job and started doing freelance consulting for a firm I used to work for this week.  I leave for Vegas tomorrow for a project and am returning on the Tues/Wed redeye back home.

My mom says that while they know my schedule, the funeral could be as early as Tuesday, though it could be Wednesday (which would obviously be better for me).

I'm not sure what if anything I should do now or when I find out when the funeral is (hopefully tomorrow).  I really don't feel like I'm in a position to bail on this project as it's just me and one other guy and we have do a certain number of executive interviews over the two days of this conference (i.e. there is no doing it at another time).  We've been having hours of calls to prep the last few days, so it's not like I can just have someone else go, but it seems ridiculous to even consider missing a family funeral for a consulting project.  I'm not sure what to do.

    No advice... just lots of hugs at this most difficult time. I wish you the best in your decisions.

    Dx -Ute cancer, DOR from cancer treatments, and embryo quality issues. NOV 2010 CANCER FREE
    2005-2011= 3 Rounds of Clomid, 5 IUI's, 3 IVF's- ALL BFN's
    After 7yrs TTC, 5yrs of ute cancer, and 11 failed IF treatments, we got a surprise BFP! So thankful!

    First, I'm so sorry for your loss. I think my decision would be based on how close you were with your Grandfather. If it were me, I would go to the funeral. There will always be another business trip, but only one more chance to celebrate your Grandfather's life. (((hugs)))

    Sorry about your grandfather.  Will your family work with your schedule at all and plan the funeral for Wed. instead of Tues?  Would it be possible to do the interviews by video so you could stay here?

    Just seeing this now.  I am so sorry for you loss!!  Big ((hug))  T&P to you and your family!

    I'm glad to here that it looks like the funeral will be on Thursday so that you won't have to decide between your work obligation and the funeral!

    I'm so sorry for your loss.  I hate that you have to make this decision, and I don't have any advice but I hope everything works out.  Can you go until Tuesday, and hopefully convince them to hold the funeral on Wednesday?
