Floaters in Vision...

Have any of you guys experienced floaters in your vision during pregnancy? I passed my glucose test just fine, so I know it isn't GD that is causing it, and it has only happened twice, but I just thought I would see if anyone else has experience this. I've read a few things that said it was fairly normal during the 3rd trimester, so I thought I would ask:)

 TIA!

Re: Floaters in Vision...

  • It's a sign of high blood pressure. It was one of the things my nurse said to look out for. I would go to a grocery store and test my BP tonight, and if it is high to go to the ER. Not to worry you, it could be other things, but I would check to make sure.

  • I have had floaters a few times in the last 3 weeks. I passed my GD test as well and one of the times it happened I was at my OB office and my bp was normal. I just chucked it up to my astigmatism.

  • me too. the last few weeks. i know it can be a sign of high bp but i've checked it and mine is still really low, so i'm not sure if there is another explaination.

  • Causes of Eye Flashes During Pregnancy

Pregnant women experience floaters, and the causes of seeing eye floaters during pregnancy are the following:

    • Tiny scraps of protein trapped in the vitreous humour.
    • In the third trimester of the pregnancy, the hyaloids artery regresses to provide nutrients to the developing lens in the growing fetus. During this period, the artery may not fully regress thus there are remnants left and these leftover is seen as floaters.
    • Eye floaters during pregnancy may also indicate gestational diabetes
    • Pregnancy hypertensive disorder (Eclampsia and pre-eclampsia) can cause pregnant women to see spots floating before their eyes.
  • since I have high blood pressure it can be a sign of pre-eclampsia and very serious. If I get them I am to call my Dr and go in ASAP. I would definitely check your BP. Just to be on the safe side..
  • i've always had floaters, so i'm used to them i guess...

but i've noticed that i get flashes/spots when i am dehydrated.  at least that's easy to fix.

  • I have had blurry vision. floaters and also see spots. I have high blood pressure, and some protein in my urine but when I went to the ER they discounted both as the cause for the vision disturbances and said I was having a migraine (I got them pre-pregnancy also) since at the time my blood pressure was normal and my urine only had trace amounts of protein.

I keep getting blurry vision every once and a while and I usually take Tylenol and lie down and it goes away. I usually call my doc and I'm sent straight to L&D to get monitored since in my case it could be pre-e. It's actually really stressful when I start seeing spots because I never know if it's pre-e and high blood pressure related or if it's just another migraine, but I always call my doc and let her know it happened again....
