daycare already--anybody else?

Well, I think I have daycare lined up for when baby gets here, but it's very strange to have that done already.  I had heard the daycare provider I wanted may have one space for around the time I will theoretically need it.  So, I called her today and it seems that things are lined up, I just have to go do paperwork to get her to hold the spot.  It kind of unnerves me doing this, since it's so early, but I'll see what the paperwork says.  I'm glad I caught her, though, because she said she just posted today on facebook about having the spot.  It eases my mind to know my baby will be in good hands.

Has anyone else already had to deal with daycare in order to make sure you have a/the place or person you want?

  • A friend of mine is starting her own daycare and is holding a spot for my LO.

  • we were advised by several family members and friends to start looking right away. we're on one waiting list already and plan to check out more.
  • The thought of daycare just passed through my mind for the first time today. I do not even know where to start!!!  I'm going to wait until we announce it and then ask local friends for recs.  I'm so nervous about finding an "affordable" yet "good" place.

Friends are a great place to start--that is where I got my recommendations from (and the inside information that I needed to call ASAP).

  • We are on a list for the university-campus daycare. It's supposed to be the best, and is pretty affordable. Plus, they take cloth diapers and bottled breast milk!

  • I've had calls from people who're 3-4 months pregnant looking for spots for their unborn babies. Infant spots are very hard to come by, because a child is considered an infant until their 2nd birthday and licensed in-home daycares are only allowed so many infants.

  • I already have given a deposit for my twins. I probably won't need care until January 2012, but will start paying 1540.00 to hold two spots!

That is insane! I can't believe they're charging that much just to hold spots! Our current daycare lady was one of the first people we told about this pregnancy. She'll make sure she has a spot for us. It's such a relief to not even have to think about childcare (& stress so much about leaving LO with a stranger) this time.

  • Our current day care provider was the first to know I was pregnant too!  There is a huge waiting list right now, and of course I get priority since we already have a child there, but I wasn't taking any chances.  With my first I had daycare lined up at about 6 weeks.  We are really lucky, we don't have to pay to hold spots because it is an employer run daycare.

  • I got very very lucky! My mom runs a in-home-daycare.  So she of course would have a fit if I even thought about taking my baby somewhere else. We are still arguing over price. She wants to watch the LO for free and I am insisting on paying her something.  That is her job and she is taking mine instead of a full time kid so I feel she should be compensated.... we will probably end up paying but have a "family discount"

  • I also had to act early - my work has an awesome daycare and I had to act quickly to have a chance of having an open spot next February!!

    Indifferent

I need to start a daycare.

  • Since I work in a daycare, I know where I'll be taking my baby :)

  • We'll be using the same daycare but I haven't actually talked to them yet.  The daycare director is on maternity leave and I want to wait for her to be back so that we can work on negotiating rates.
