What kind of camera do you have? and do you like it?

DH told me he would like a nice camera for his b-day (it is in July.)  So I'm started to do some research and see what is out there.  I think he wants some kind of SLR type camera.  (Yeah, I'm clueless when it comes to cameras.)  So just wanted to get some pointers on which ones we should check out.

Thanks!

Re: What kind of camera do you have? and do you like it?

  • I've got a Pentax DSLR but the reason I chose it is because it is compatible with my old Pentax 35mm lenses. If I didn't already have a whole load of equipment, I would have gone with a Cannon. That's what a lot of my friends have.

I'll be honest, DSLR's are really bulky and a lot of the point and shoot cameras these days have a good optical range, good storage, etc. It just depends on what he'd use it for. Compacts are nice and convenient. But then again, if your husband has something like an iPhone, he already has a compact camera built in.

If you go with an SLR, there are now these lens borrowing/rental services. My friend does that before he goes on vacation and raves about it.

  • We have a Canon Rebel T1 and absolutely love it!  Haven't figured out all the features yet, but it takes amazingly beautiful pictures and we're extremely happy with it.  My husband is a total geek and totally fawns over it.  It's big and bulkly, and I'm debating whether or not to take it to Dland in a few weeks, but I've completely satisifed with the caliber of photos it takes.  Point and shoot is great for convience, but mediocre photos when compared to an SLR.

  • Nikon D7000.

What's his level of photography knowledge and where does he want it to be?

the D40 and the D90 are FABULOUS "entry level" DSLRs.

I'm a Nikon girl for the same reason the PP is a Pentax girl: the lens mount has been the same since its inception so you can use any nikon lens on any nikon body (you only need a ring thing for motor/non motor marriage)

My point and shoot is a Olympus StylusTough 8010. It lives in the diaper bag and it true to its name.

    I <3 both of them.

  • I have a NIKON D60. I love it! It's a great entry level camera. I've just started getting a hang of all the extra things it can do but still getting used to it. Everyone is always complimenting the quality of the photos. When I had a n SLR it was Nikon. I really like the brand.
