We opted not to do that test but we did have an ultrasound at 12 weeks that would have shown if we needed to do further testing (it didn't). They measure the amount of fluid on the back of the baby's neck during the ultrasound so it's painless to you.
If you do opt to do the NT scan I think you just do a round of bloodwork at the lab similar to what you had done when you first found out you were pregnant.
Are you scared of the results? Your doctor should talk to you about family history and your risk based upon that and the ultrasound. Try not to stress about that until you have to.
