Kinda Pissed at DH...

I called Dr. Braverman's office yesterday to set up a time to have a phone consultation and they told me it costs $650 for the phone consult and they can't bill insurance for it, but I can try and get reimbursed after the fact. With that amount of money I felt like I should run it by DH first. He doesn't want to do the consult now. He thinks it will be a waste of money. I tried explaining that the kind of testing Dr. B does may shed a lot of light on our situation and may help with the next cycle, but he is adamant that our RE is enough and we don't need another opinion.

He is just so freaking cheap! Seriously $650 is just a drop in the bucket for fertility treatment costs. But he reminded me that if we didn't have IF coverage we wouldn't be doing any of this anyhow. Thankfully he doesn't know how much I pay in co-pays for the meds, otherwise he probably would want to stop now.

  • If you have 80/20 OON coverage it's only $130, but you have to file the claim. But I would be very clear about the overall costs, not just the consult. You'll probably do blood work and have a followup appt.

  • How will you get reimbursed after if they can't bill it out to your insurance company?  Be careful, a lot of places say that you can get reimbursed, and it doesn't happen.  Call your insurance company first.  Good luck!

  • I can understand why you'd be annoyed with your DH!  $650 really is a just a drop in the bucket compared to other other costs associated with IF.  Maybe give him some time to think about it?  Keep reminding him how important this phone consult is to you and for your peace of mind.  GL girly!!
