Sad story (baby death)

Colorado mom gets 10 years in jail after her son drowns in the bathtub while she was Facebooking.
Batman likes to watch cartoons on the weekends. Whatever.

    Wow. That poor baby. That is ridiculously sad and disturbing, and I think the woman is absolutely insane for leaving her "independent" 1 year old alone in the tub... but (and this might be a UO) 10 years? I could see if she held her son under on purpose or something. I'm not arguing she shouldn't do some time for gross negligence, but 10 years seems like a lot for a (very) ill-judged accident. Unless there's more to this story that I'm missing...

    I actually wondered if that's why she got so long- they were hoping that by the time she got out she wouldn't be able to procreate anymore?

    I agree with you. I do think they should require her to do less time but that she should also be required to do a LOT of parenting classes.

    I actually think they're trying to set a precedence.  Since social networking is so mainstream and people are becoming so addicted, maybe the court is trying to say "guess what, your kid still needs to come ahead of Farmville".

    Meh.  I don't think it's long enough.  She killed her kid.  And it was no accident.  She was negligent to the point the kid died.

    She wasn't gone for a minute or two while she checked her status. He was dead for a while before she noticed.
