has anyone had this? i had it with dd.. BUT.. it showed up just a few days after i had her. it stumped the ob/gyn, went to dermatologist, then back to ob/gyn.
the cure? to deliver. i was soooo covered in hives that i couldnt remember my first 2 weeks with dd because i was in a cold bath and pretty much in extacy from scratching so much.
i really hope i dont get it this time.. i wanna really get to know my baby as a early newborn.
also.. epidural.. ive read its hard to bond with baby if you had the epidural.. in my case i think this was true. while i wanted her when i was pg.. after i had her i had a really hard time bonding with her. i could have easily given her up. she was like an alien and i didnt feel like she was mine. took a loooong time for me really bond with her. i mean.. i would protect her like she was mine.. but didnt feel like she was mine.
which why this time, i am trying to do no pain meds. so i can not be "out of it" when i have it and be a happy mommy.. i also had postpartum depression.
Re: puppps... and aslo the epidural
I had PUPPS. It started the day after I had her. It was from my belly button to my ankles. Once I started steroids and antihistimines it cleared up fast. It was annoying and I went in ASAP for treatment.
I had an epi I was totally fine. I was not out of it and DD was born very alert. I had her at 11:30p and we were still up cuddling at 3am! I think everyone reacts differently to drugs.
my read shelf:
i had it on my chest, not bb, arms, all over my legs, my butt, my lady bits, my feet hands.. it was HORRIBLE. lol..
guess i did have too many Ps in there
I agree with PP.
I had an epidural with my c-section and regardless anything I experienced I still bonded with DD.
I believe with PP Depression you can have some delayed/issues with bonding (just because my sister had these issues with her PPD) so that may be more of the cause.. I'd speak with your doctor if you're concerned about having those feelings again.
Although, if you feel like you can go med-free and didn't like your epidural, then I say go for it

My Ovulation Chart
I had an epi and had zero issues with bonding. Like others, I've never heard of an epi causing such a thing and it definitely sounds like PPD.
I didn't have pupps but I've heard it's miserable.
I've read that epidurals can cause issues with breastfeeding. I think that's because baby may be sluggish from the epidural and have difficulty latching on. I think the only way an epi would have an impact on bonding is if it leads to further interventions, such as pitocin, which impacts the natural flow of hormones which are very important for bonding immediately following delivery.
That said, I loved my natural birth experience and would do it again in a heartbeat. I loved that I could get up and walk almost immediately. I loved that I could take a shower within hours of delivery. I loved that I could move around freely while I was in labor. I loved the high that I felt when it was all done.
I took a childbirth class taught by an ALACE certified instructor which drew from many different methods. My favorite books were Birthing From Within, Ina May's Guide to Childbirth and Hypnobirthing the Mongan Method. I'm considering doing the hypnobabies home study this time around.

That's interesting. I had an epi with DD and nursed her within minutes of delivery and she latched on perfectly! I plan on getting an epi with this one, and hope to have the same experience.
I agree, I had a C-Section and after they finished closing me up I nursed DD within 20 minutes. She never had any issues latching from the Epi.
I also had Pitocin so that my uterus would contract (since I never went into labor) and that didn't cause any issues either..
That's an interesting point. I also had Pitocin after LO was born to make my uterus contract (I think that virtually everyone does, although I would prefer to skip it this time). I didn't have any issues, but I always assumed they were referring to the use of pitocin in an induction situation which would interrupt the build up of natural oxytocin
