Hello all
Ive been lurking since we found out our 2nd was due this August but this is my first post.
My first was born via C/S the day before his due date bc he was already 11lbs 4oz (which makes everyone laugh when i tell them being that Im only 5"3, 110lbs pre-pregnancy). Any way, I never even went into labor bc once they saw on the u/s how big he was they scheduled a c/s right away. I was young and naive and just had no idea what the consequences of having a c/s would be. I ended up passing out mid c/s, scaring the crap out of my husband, needing 2 blood transfusions, and being in extreme pain and constantly sick bc of the meds they gave me.
Now with my little girl due in August, I desperately want to VBAC & my husband is begind me 100% (but I also dont think he completely understands). My dr. seems on board but i have to be honest, although I love my Dr., he just keeps saying we have to wait to see how big she will be. Has anyone has this type of situation or had a VBAC after never going into labor for your first?
I dont even know where to being with questions. I guess im just looking for support.
Re: VBAC after never going into labor first time (kinda long)
I'm in the same situation. I never went into labor with DS and had a c/s at 40w3d b/c they said he was well over 10lbs (and he was born 7lbs 4oz.....). My Dr is very supportive of a VBAC but it still caitiously optimistic. I never really dialated with DS and don't seem to be making any progress yet either. I've discussed all of our options with my Dr and we've come up with a plan that we're both comfortable with. We're still doing whatever it takes to give me a successful VBAC but I'm also beginining to accept that a c/s is still a strong possibility for me.
Remember just b/c your first was a big baby doesn't mean your next one will be! GL!
I'd suggest finding a doctor who shows more VBAC support. When I was pregnant with #2 I made the mistake of not switching doctors when my OB said I couldn't go past my due date and had me schedule a csection. Well, my due date came and went with no sign of labor (I've never dilated with either baby) so I had a RCS. Now I'm trying to VBA2C and even though the odds are against me, I found a supportive OB who will let me go past my due date. It gives me hope!
Contact your local ICAN chapter and see if they can help you find a more supportive OB.
That is a big baby. But there are lots of positive stories about small Moms giving birth vaginally to big babies. Since they never even let you try, you don't even know if it would have been a problem You might have a good chance this time if you can find someone supportive of letting you wait.
Congrats and Good Luck.
Not the same situation exactly, but I didn't really go into labor with #1, either. I was 41 1/2 weeks, and they went to induce me, and DS turned oblique before the induction really took hold (was just getting some braxton hicks type of contractions, nothing that seemed real or productive). This time around, I ended up going into labor on my own, and had a fabulous VBAC to my second son, who was a pound smaller than #1 (you can grow smaller babies the 2nd time around!).
Also - I don't know if pp mentioned, but from what I've read and understand, the ACOG doesn't recommend doing c/s or inductions for 'large' babies, FWIW.
Good luck!
