BPP's: What should I expect?

Hey ladies!  I just got back from the OB to check my BS numbers.  She said they look ok, but my meds will have to most likely be increased b/c it'll get harder to control them. I'm 31 weeks.  She said weekly appointments from now on and she wants to do biophysical profiles.  What should I expect to happen during the BPP's?

Re: BPP's: What should I expect?

  • I have GD and I am now insulin dependent.  I have had a few bpp's mostly routine but a few because of problems.  They are really just an ultrasound that looks at specific criteria.  Of course I don't remember all the criteria but they look at movement, muscle tone, practice breathing and fluid levels, I think there is one more, because a perfect score is 10/10.  Md said it's like an apgar score for babies still inside.  Good luck, I'm sure you and the baby will do well.

  • BPP are just an u/s that lasts a bit longer. Usually anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. They are looking for baby to do certain things (practice breathing, etc) as well as looking at fluid levels, growth from week to week. etc.
