Restaurant recommendations in Indy

My husband and I are going to see Demetri Martin perform in Indianapolis next Thursday at the Egyptian Room at Old National Centre. Since the show doesn't start until 8:30 (and we have a babysitter starting at 4:30!), we'd like to grab some dinner before the show. Has anyone been to Indy recently and dined at a restaurant that they really enjoyed? I know it's kind of a long stretch, but thought I'd ask here before trying to invade the Indy board for advice. :)

Re: Restaurant recommendations in Indy

  • My family lives in Indy so I'm there often...but not too familiar with downtown.  Are you wanting to dine downtown?  St. Elmo Steakhouse is amazing but pricey, and you would probably need reservations.  My favorite restaurant in Indy is Some Guys (Italian) but it is on the northeast side of town...don't know if you want to travel there.

To be honest, I don't even know where the venue is located - are you familiar with it? Is it downtown? We won't have a lot of time too drive to far away from where it is, since we'll want to get to the show in time. The steakhouse suggestion is good. Have you heard of any other good restaurants downtown (assuming that's where the venue is located)?

  • I have heard things about St. Elmo's Fire in the foodie world. That is one place I have been wanting to try.

Yes, the venue is downtown.  I really haven't dined downtown in so long...St. Elmo is the only place I've been to recently.  I've heard good things about Bazbeaux Pizza and the Rathskeller is fun (although I'm not a fan of German food.)

  • I've been to St. Elmo's and it is delicious. Definitely try the shrimp cocktail; they are known for their sauce. If St. Elmo's is out of your price range, go to their sister restaurant next door - Harry & Izzy's. They serve the shrimp cocktail and have more moderate options, like sandwiches and brick oven pizza. Have a great time!

  • Thanks, ladies! I made a reservation at St. Elmo's, and I'm already anticipating a delicious meal. :)

Definitely get the shrimp cocktail...I'm not typically a shrimp cocktail kind of girl but that stuff rocked my world.
