lets talk about how much you feel baby

I am almost 25 wks.... I still don't feel the baby all that much. Some days more then others. I had to break out the doppler last night to see if I could feel him. It drives me nuts that I don't feel him more & makes me super nervous.

So who feels the baby all day long? Just @ night? Talk to me about what you feel

Re: lets talk about how much you feel baby

  • I usually only feel the baby at night, when I'm sitting on the sofa with my feet up, but I did feel a few kicks this morning in bed. It took me FOREVER to feel anything, and it wasn't until this past week that I started feeling noticeable movement. I have an anterior placenta, so that's probably why it took so long to feel anything.

  • Ugh, this last week has been horrible.  I was feeling him/her great last week usually in the mornings, around 3 pm and then around 8-9 pm.  They were good strong kicks that MH could even feel.

This week, I can barely feel anything and it stinks.  I think I'm maybe really stressed out which is adding to it.

  • I didn't feel it consistently for a while. Now it's usually during lunch or when I eat, and then again when I'm laying a certain way watching TV. It's definitely not all day or anything yet.

  • I usually feel baby when I have my feet up watching TV, maybe when I am falling asleep, and in the morning when I am laying in bed. That sounds like a lot, but it sure doesn't feel like I feel the baby very often! Also some days not at all.

I also have an anterior placenta which acts as a bit of a cushion between baby and belly. The last couple days I felt him or her a few times while I am at my desk working, but it's mostly when I am laying down or relaxing.

I can't wait to start feeling baby more, and REALLY can't wait for some outside kicks so DH can feel too!

  • This past week (week 22) I have felt the baby quite a bit throughout the day. I wonder if he ever sleeps. Especially when I am in bed sitting up, he kicks really hard now and you can see all kinds of movement under my skin. My DH can feel him now too.

It could be the way your baby is positioned and how active he/she is. I have a friend whose DD never moved, ever. They needed to send vibrations through her stomach at u/s to get her to move. As long as you are feeling movements of any kind at this point that should be good. I think it is after 28 weeks that you need to feel like 6 movements in 30 minutes or something like that.

  • I usually only feel him while I'm laying down - and not every time. I feel him mostly on my right side, which my doctor said to expect b/c the  placenta is to the left and he'd have to kick harder over there for me to feel it.
  • I'm glad you have your doppler! I'm sure your LO is just gearing up to beat the crap out of you in third tri, Kell.

I do feel this little guy every day, and since Tuesday, I don't know if he's slept more than an hour at a time during the day. I see outside kicks with my shirt on and he is either going to be a soccer player (yay!) or a karate star.

But I think it all has to do with the the angle (posterior and anterior) of your ute and where your placenta is, right?

  • i usually feel baby a few times while i'm just sitting at my desk but especially after lunch, when i first get home from work and i have my feet up, and when i go to bed. Also, whenever i wake up in the middle of the night to pee it seems like she's super active. maybe your baby is dancing the night away while you're sleeping.

  • I feel him the most at night when I"m trying to watch tv and then when I go to bed and in th emornings. Then I usually feel him a little bit around feeding times haha, i.e. before I eat lunch and before I eat dinner when I'm hungry, but then he's usually pretty quiet for the rest of the day.
  • L has a bit of a schedule... I'll feel him first about 10 minutes before my alarm goes off and here and there on the way to work, then I usually won't feel him much while I'm working until 3 when I get ready to go home. I feel him a lot between 3-8, and then he seems to quieten down for the night. His kicks are the strongest at night.

  • I seem to feel the most kicks at about 1 everyday - maybe it has something to do with lunchtime and my afternoon food coma. At my US, they told me I have an anterior placenta, so there is an extra cushion absorbing those little kicks. My doctor told me she didn't feel her baby kicking until about 25 weeks. I don't think you need to worry, although I totally understand!

  • I feel him periodically throughout the day, but he does also have quiet days.  He usually only has about two quiet days in a row per week, but this week he had four.  That, of course, was nerve wracking for a loss momma.  On day three of quiet time, I tried everything to get him to move.  He refused.  So, I pulled out the doppler.  Found his heartbeat quickly and then he punched the wand.  I told him that he could have avoided the doppler if he'd just cooperated!

All that being said, I feel him most when I'm sitting quietly.  If I'm moving around a lot, I rarely feel him.  I think it's more of an attention thing (meaning me paying attention) than a size thing, as he was already over a pound at our last u/s at 20 weeks.  He does usually like to do the jig right before I go to sleep and often gives me a punch or two when I first wake up, but on quiet days he doesn't always do even that.  I also read that they tend to change positions a lot at this point in gestation, so they can move into a position that you're less likely to feel their movements.

  • My baby's movements are pretty random for now. I do tend to feel her move more in the evenings when I'm relaxing or after I eat dinner. Sometimes I don't feel her all night or in the morning so I get out my doppler and check her out. I've read that babies sleep a lot so I just think I have a sleepy baby lol.

  • She's active at different parts of the day.  I don't feel her continuously (they do actually do quite a bit of sleeping in-utero)!  Mostly after I've eaten - I assume the food gives her some energy :)

This is pretty much it for me, but then add in some random times as well.

  • I was only feeling her at night but now I feel her move during the day as well.  Not often, but I felt her a few times this morning.

  • Within the last week or so I've started feeling her all the time. However, she moves and kicks a lot more when I lie on my back. HTH

She definitely has her active periods, which is pretty normal - it's a lot like a newborn - sleep for a couple hours, wake up and kick, go back to sleep. If I "need" to feel her all I have to do is eat something sugary or drink something cold.
