Nervous for Abby's head....

Eek....so I scheduled the appointment with the clinic to have her diagnosed for plagio and get fitted for a helmet. No big deal right?

Well, during our consult with our pedi, I showed her the picture of Abby's head when she was first born. She wanted me to email it over to her, so I did right there (gotta love smartphones :) She was going to send her pictures that she just took of Abby as well as the picture from her birth over to Children's.

Then I get a call back from the nurse at the pedi's office. She gives me the direct number to the secretary of a doctor at Children's and wants me to schedule an appointment with him directly and not go through the clinic. Eek!

So, I call over to Children's and the secretary knows who we are already and has all the information and gets me an appointment on Monday at 9am. Eek!

I have no idea why I am so nervous about all of this. I mean, I'm okay with her wearing a helmet to have her head fixed. My mind is just racing that she is going to have to have surgery on her head to fix that inward dent. Ugh! Wish us luck! Hopefully is nothing too serious.

Re: Nervous for Abby's head....

  • ((hugs)) Try not to stress too much-- I know its hard not to, and I know its hard to stop our minds from going to the worst possible outcome but I've found that things usually go much better than I expect them too. You are a strong mama and she is a strong little girl, you guys will get through this! Keep us updated!

  • Despite the fact that you're ok with it, I think it's normal to be extra nervous after all of the special care you are getting regarding your appointment.  I'm sure subconsciously, the thought that they want to see you sooner, rather than later, is causing your mind to work overtime.

Try not to worry too much.  If it were really bad, I'm sure they wouldn't have let you wait until she was almost 4 months old to do something about it.  Try not to let your mind go to all those places!  Hopefully it's all just really precautionary.

  • Take a deep breath.  I know it's hard not to worry, but they are probably just rushing you in so that she can get started with treatments right away.  The sutures in her skull have not closed yet, so they are still flexible.  Wearing a helmet should more than likely reshape her head and correct her problem.

I'll be thinking of you guys!

  • I can understand why you are nervous and I really hope you have nothing to be nervous about, Becky! The good news is that they are being proactive and are ready to work with you. I hope everything is good on Monday. I know I haven't seen Abby in person, but I can't even tell that there was a dent when looking at her recent pictures!
