Trouble TTC

My Intro, and endo gals please come in...(sorry long)

Most of the pertinent info is in my siggy. I have responded to postings here and lurked but I don't recall introducing myself in any meaningful way. It is time to come out of the shadows and make a proper introduction.

I mostly hang out on the TTC over 35 board, and I love it there, but I would like to get a chance to talk with more people who are dealing with TTC and endo, and I thought I might find that here.

So anyhow, I had a lap on April 1st to remove a bunch of adhesions and endo (deemed moderate by my RE), and today discussed next steps. He could not speculate on my chances now for conception compared to before and basically said some women with endo are infertile while others are not, and there is no way to tell my looking (this is even after visible signs of the disease are removed).

My RE recommended moving now to Femara medicated IUI (at approx 700 bucks a pop), which I am balking at due to cost, and some willingness to try a few months on my own.

I also think if I can't get KU on my own due to endo, IUI will be subject to the same pitfalls and thus a waste of time and money.

So, are there any other endo gals who went or are going straight to IVF?

Also, I am 100% OOP and this of course factors quite a bit in my thoughts here.

Re: My Intro, and endo gals please come in...(sorry long)

  • I only did two rounds of IUI and now we're moving on to IVF.

We decided to only do the two rounds because my RE suspects that I have tubal damage.  Also, my Province's healthcare is underfunded so I wasn't getting proper monitoring with IUI.

I'm sorry to hear about your endo, it really does suck!

  • I hope it's okay for me to respond!

We did 1 IUI with Femara before I was diagnosed with Endo. After my diagnosis my RE suggested we move straight to IVF.

Check out the blog IVF Authority (you can search endometriosis, there are quite a few posts on it) my RE has the same philosophy and after much research on my own I felt like it was the best decision, and it paid off.

    Good luck to you!

  • After my last lap in dec my RE said he felt very comfortable with us trying on our own for a few months since I was all cleaned out. He also said it would make the injects more likely to be successful after the lap. I have heard the theory on going straight to IVF and it makes sense. I went the route of meds only first since that's what was recommended by my RE, but I am still in my 20s. If I was over 35 I would be more inclined to say screw the IUI and go for whatever had the highest success rate. Good luck with everything!

  • I just discovered that I had endo... after some serious pain in month 7 of TTC, I went in and had the U/S and a pelvic.  The dr couldn't detect any normal tissue of my right ovary and was unable to even get to it when he did a pelvic exam.  He correctly decided to move right past the laproscopy and do an exploratory laporatomy... where he found that my right ovary was consumed in masses of endometrioma and completely non functional.  He removed the right one completely since it was no longer even working. The left side was also pretty bad and he did have to remove 1/3 of that but was able to save the rest of it.  So, I still have eggs available on that side but will only have IVF as an option for pregnancy... I can't produce enough progesterone to maintain a pregnancy and I have tubal damage on that side.  I am doing a 6 month Lupron depot therapy to alleviate any endometriomas that may not have been visible on the left side... from there we go straight into IVF.  So, I will be here for at least 8 more months by calculation... but, I am here to listen or try and help (I am new on here!!) if I can while you have to be here!!  Good Luck!!
