We have two - one has two parts to clean (it's a Fisher Price Princess thing that is also a step stool if you put the back part down) and the other is a Baby Bjorn with only one part to clean. I prefer the Bjorn because it's SO much easier to clean...DD doesn't care either way, though. Once she got used to the potties, she started liking the rings on the real potty better anyway, which is even easier to clean up after
None, just use the insert. DS thinks the potty on the floor is a toy. He does just fine going on the big potty and there is no mess to clean. DH also taught him to pee standing up from the get go. We got a plastic stool for him to stand on for that.
We have the bjorn potty and the bjorn potty seats. Ds wouldn't even consider the potty and only wanted to use the potty seat on the real potty. So we bought the born stool and he now goes in, moves his stool over, puts the seat in and goes potty. The bjorn potty seat is VASTLY superior to all other potty seats.

Re: Seriously, what makes one potty better than the other?
You want something simple otherwise it is a huge pain to clean. We have the frog but a lot of people get Babyjorn

I have used the Baby Bjorn and like it a lot because it is very stable and very easy to clean.
Those were my criteria.
