need advice re: eating for Miss N

My sweet girl loves to eat and has the chunky thighs to proof it. Well for the last day and a half, she's refusing everything I've given her.  Like take a bite or two and then it all ends up on the floor.  I've tried giving her different food items, feeding her myself and taking away her tray when she starts throwing food.  She's not acting like she's starving but for as little as she's eaten since about Tuesday at dinner, she should be starving.  I'm upping her bottle intake today to try and compensate since she literally is on a food strike (today:  1 dollar size pancake vs 4-5, a teeny bit of cheese and a bite or 2 of chicken vs 1 cheesestick, a good size piece of chicken, and some fruit,  about 5 noodles and a bite of cheese vs a whole bowl of noodles/veggies.)   No fever - a funny/bad diaper this morning - not acting strange.  Not drooling - no runny nose.

A tooth finally broke through - could it be bothering her or she doesn't know what to do with it?  You'd think I'd know this since Ryan is four but I have no clue.

TIA

  • It sounds like teething to me. It is probably a bit of pain and a bit of the unknown like you said. If you are ok with giving her Tylenol, I would do it and see if that helps her appetite come back once the pain is gone.

  • either teething or some little viral stomach thing. I would not worry about it, I have learned not to push. When I did I got rewarded with a huge vomitaceous Thank You Mom!

Elena didn't really eat lunch and then she had an explosive poopy today. It's going around. But she won't starve. As long as they drink fluids they''re fine.

  • Thanks for all the advice.  My gut says teething but it's so hard to know.  I don't want her to be around anyone if she's sick but I don't think that was it.  :)

  • We also don't push food because we've had the same "puke you" response as A and have FINALLY learned our lesson.  I'd watch her for signs of other illness and make sure she drinks but otherwise wouldn't stress too hard about it.  Continue to offer, but don't push food.
  • Both of my girls go through days like that, Natalie especially.  She'll have days when she'll eat one meal and the rest of the day is just beverages and fruit.

Addi, goes through days where she'll nibble on things, but never actually eat a whole meal.  I find it to mostly be when she's not feeling great, either teeth, constipated or such.

I figure if it's a day or two she's fine, but more than like 3 days I'd be concerned.
