3-6 month moms

What is your baby's schedule? I'm having a tough time trying to get Mason's afternoons in order. He takes a great nap every day from 9am-11am, and from there on it's always different. Sometimes he'll nap around 1230, sometimes not until 2.

Bedtime is 6pm, but sometimes he'll nap from 5-5:30, so should I still be putting him to bed at 6? I don't really see a difference, he still wakes up every 2 hours to eat no matter what time he naps. I just want to try to get something more consistant. Wondering if 3 naps a day is normal at this age? (4 months)

Re: 3-6 month moms

  • My kiddos take three naps a day.  Sometimes more at daycare if one or more of them were super short (30mins or less).  I can't tell you much as far as schedule since they daycare handles it for the most part... but I think they just put them down when they seem tired... which is pretty much what we do on the weekends (no set times for naps).

We often pick up the girls from daycare around 5:15ish and sometimes they are napping... and they are still usually tired and ready for bed at 6/6:30.  Sometimes I find if they have a late nap that they  might last until 7... but they are always in bed by then!  If they had a late nap, I just watch a little closer to see if they are tired or not at the usual bedtime.  If not, I'll let them go a bit longer so getting them down doesn't turn into a fight.

  • Mr. O is seven months old, and he dropped the third nap/catnap between five and six months.

I tried to watch for signs that he was tired, but his naps ended up being about an hour before he ate. HTH.

  • My DD doesn't nap very well at 4 months.  She takes catnaps throughout the day.  She sleeps from 8 pm-7:30ish am straight.  During the day, she is still eating every 2 hrs.  The only nap I can count on is the 7 o'clock nap in the evening of about 20min.  The rest of them are fairly inconsistent.  I too am looking forward to a more predictable schedule, but my pediatrician assures me that if she is sleeping that well at night, she might not take long naps during the day.  That makes for one tired mommy!  Can't have it all.  I don't think that this info. helps, but sometimes it's just nice to know that others have an erratic schedule too!
  • Ash is napping 3 times at this point, roughly a morning, noon and afternoon nap.
  • Maddie's naps are also very erratic.  She used to be good for a 10-11 a.m. nap, but that went out the window a few weeks ago and now it's like a guessing game as to when she will nap.  Sometimes she will go 3-4 hours without napping.  It's bizarre - if someone expected me to take a nap every 2-3 hours, I would be all over it!

  • As you know, we run a relatively late schedule at our house. That said, W's day *usually* goes something like this:

9:00am - wakes for the day

1:00pm - naps for about 1-2 hours (ETA: we TRY to get him to nap earlier, but our efforts have proven to be futile)

4:30pm - naps for about an hour

7:00pm - naps for about an hour

10:00pm - in bed for the evening

    Yes

  • Jackson just dropped down to 2 naps a day and as recently as a month ago was taking up to 4 naps a day.  Bedtime is 8pm at our house (he gets up between 7-8) and he still took an evening nap especially if his afternoon naps were shorter.
