Diarrhea and BRAT Diet

Emma has had the runs this morning twice now, but she doesn't want to drink anything other than water and doesn't want food. Is the BRAT diet the only thing that will work to help her? What would you do if your little one wouldn't want to eat?

Re: Diarrhea and BRAT Diet

  • Poor thing! Is she sick? There's a really nasty stomach bug going around. Maybe try juice/pedialite and toast/crackers/cereal? Hope she's feeling better soon!

  • As long as she keeps drinking water I wouldn't worry too much. Staying hydrated will help with the runs.

  • Coconut Water is another good option- it has a ton of electrolytes and potassium, but not the sugar of gatorade and pedialyte.  When DH was sick for like a week with the runs, his dr recommended a lot of salty foods, as well, to help retain the water.

That part was something I hadn't really thought of before.  So, salty foods, too!

  • Thanks! So far she hasn't had anymore issues since earlier, so hopefully she's done! But I'll definitely try your ideas!
