Supply help needed- Please!!

I need help! I feel like my low supply is dropping. I pump 3x a day for 20 minutes a time and lately have only been getting 1.5-3oz a session. I also pump in the evening and in the middle of the night if needed. DD takes 15 oz a day at daycare.  I am taking 12 Fenugreek and drinking Mothers Milk Tea. My freezer stash is dwindling since I keep having to tap into it to have enough milk to send to daycare. I tried oatmeal and it didn't seem to help but plan on eating it every day starting tomorrow as well.

Is there anything else I can do to increase my supply?

I totally feel you and am in the exact same boat. Even down to the DS taking 15 ounces at daycare and only getting about 3 ounces in my 3x20 minute pumping sessions. I eat oatmeal every morning and drink a gallon of water per day and it's STILL not increasing. I am thinking of starting Fenugreek and Blessed Thistle again, although they didn't seem to help last time. My freezer stash is on it's last leg.

I realize I am of no help, but I'm also hoping someone will chime in with a miracle supply fixer that I haven't heard about yet! Big Smile

  • I am glad I am not alone!! I know there is nothing wrong with giving LO formula but I am trying my hardest to keep BF'ing up. I can't pump anymore at work since my employer is no longer that understanding about the whole situation. They give me what is allowed by law and that is it. If I hear of anything great I will let you know!!

Actually, I read that someone had luck with Cream of Wheat, have you tried that?

  • Are you getting this much at your first morning pump? I usually get  a lot more at my first pump to make up for what I don't get later in the day. I eat oatmeal every morning. I've heard oatmeal can help.
  • I notice my supply is boosted the days after I eat SUPER well (read: a lot) and take all my vitamins (multi, D, B-12). You might have already tried it, but that's what I do when I need a boost. Good luck!

My first pump I usually get between 3-4oz, my second pump lately has only been about 2oz and then my last pump while working is 2-3oz.

I take prenatals and I have vitamin D I just haven't been taking it. I think I will start taking them again as well as picking up a B-12. Maybe I need to increase my calories but in a healthy way.

    Thank you!!

  • I had supply issues with pumping for my DS after I returned to work.  It was rough - I kept with it until he was about 10 months old, but it was rough!  And I was supplementing with formula a few times a day.  I hated it... and felt like I was a little bit of a failure.  I always drank tons of water and ate enough calories...

I already feel like my supply has been so much better this time.  Here are my thoughts on what's might be helping:  more sleep (I think this is really important), still tons of water, drinking mother's milk tea.  I had oatmeal 3 or 4 days in the last week and it made SUCH a difference.  Here's the thing, though - I was eating steel cut oats (last time I ate instant or sometimes old fashioned).  That might make a difference.

I've also heard that soy products can help (tofu) and so can almonds?  Worth a try, right?

    Good luck!

I haven't tried Cream of Wheat. It might be a good idea. Or maybe the steel cut oats that the other poster suggested. It's so frustrating! I'm considering switching out one of his bottles at daycare with a formula one, just so that I can use the milk that I'm pumping during that session to build my freezer stash back up. My goal right now is 6 months before trying that - only 2 weeks left!

I see you're in Houston too - I don't know about you, but eating hot oatmeal during the humid summer months doesn't sound good to me either.
