I'm new to the Bump....my hubby and I have been trying to concieve for a little over a year and a friend (who just delivered a beautiful baby girl) recommended this site. Sometimes it feels like I'm the last one in my little part of the world still trying to get pregnant, so I'm trying to think happy thoughts and not stress too much. Anyway, nice to meet you all and I look forward to learning new tips and tricks, and hopefully sharing happy BFP news with you someday soon!

Re: Hi everyone!
Welcome!
Have you seen a specialist?
hello! I am also new & trying to conceive! I hope it works out for you because it is stressful & heartbreaking.
I just went for a follow-up exam yesterday with my regular OB/GYN, but I haven't seen a specialist yet. I was prescribed lab tests for hormone levels and instructed to take Serophene (Clomid) at the beginning of my next cycle because she fears I may have unreliable ovulation since my regular cycle is 32 days or longer. Home ovulations tests have indicated that I ovulate around Day 20 but some months I didn't get a positive. The plan is to take the Serophene and test for ovulation, then go back for lab tests again post-ovulation. After that we will discuss posisble next steps...Also my DH is getting his swimmers tested next week.
Has anyone taken Serophene or Clomid, or followed this type of investigation for infertility?
Thanks!

I strongly, strongly urge you to either see a specialist or push for more testing before going the Clomid route. You could have undiagnosed hormonal issues, or blocked tubes (and Clomid won't do a thing for that) that need to be addressed before your ob/gyn pushes Clomid on you. And you definitely should have your DH get an SA before you even start meds.
Clomid, as with any other drug, has side effects. Some people hyperrespond to it. For others, it can thin their uterine lining and prevent implantation. There are visual side effects you can get as well. You should be monitored on it for at least a cycle to see how you're responding and if your lining is OK.
I don't want to scare you, but it pisses me off when ob/gyns, who don't necessarily have a lot of IF experience, run a few incomplete tests and throw Clomid out like it's candy.

My usual OB was out on maternity leave (the irony!) so I was sent to a temporary/new doc, and I thought it strange to be prescribed a drug so quickly. I asked what the side effects/risks were, and he said "there's a small percentage of mulitple births." I was instructed to get the hormone tests post-ovulation, but no other monitoring was discussed. 5 minutes and I was out the door.
I did have an HSG about 7 years ago (previous marriage) and it was fine. I tried to conceive for 2 years back then with no luck. HDG is such an unpleasant procedure, I'd hate to have to do it again.... Thanks for your feedback... I think I'll try to get a referral for a specialist.

You will likely need a new one, and potentially an SHG as well. They've come along way in the last few years, and you may have a better experience this time out.
I also wanted to add that Oing on CD20 and having a 32-day cycle isn't that out of the range of normal. Not everyone has a 28-day cycle and ovulate on Day 14.
If you haven't checked out Taking Charge of Your Fertility or fertilityfriend.com, I highy recommend.
