Possible seizure scare :(

Our 7 week old (1 wk adjusted) has had a few episodes of what I think is reflux induced apnea. After her first week of prevacid she was still having some mild episodes so our pediatrician sent us to a pediac neurologist to rule out seizures to be sure. (she stops breathing, her tounge turns blue, body stiffens but arms twitch, has a foamy mouth and screams bloody murder when she is done after about 15 seconds) We had her first appointment today and even though the neurologist seems to mostly agree with me, he is concerned about some of the things that she is doing and has ordered a 4 hour video EEG on Friday to see what is going on in her little brain. I'm very scared. Has anyone else had this happen to them? If so, what was the outcome?

  • So many prayers!  I'm sorry you are going through this.

  • I wish I had some info, but I don't.  But I did want to tell you I will be thinking about you and that it sounds like she is getting really good care.  I know that doesn't help a lot, but you are in my prayers!

  • Yes! Teagen  was doing the same exact thing, this went on for maybe 2 weeks and then they just stopped. They ran numerous tests and her doctors and surgeons all said they were puzzled, she hasnt had any more of those kinds of episodes. Ihope they can give you an answer because I never got one. Prayers your way!

  • My dd was having possible seizures at about 10 months and had to go in for an eeg.  She doing this odd thing with her head where she would drop in to her chest repeatedly.  We went in for a 1hr eeg it showed no seizure activity but she didn't do the head thing so we went in for a 24 hr eeg as an inpatient at Children's hospital.  The 24 hour video one showed that they were not seizures but what they called non eplilectic head nod.  Which I think they made up in the hall.  She stopped doing it eventually and now does it sometimes when she is very tired.  The most difficult thing for us was keeping her busy and happy while hooked up to the test.  It should be easier since you lo is so young.  I had to chase her around trying to keep the 6 feet of wires that were glued to her head and attatched to the wall from tangling and ripping off her head.  Good luck I hope it is nothing and just apnea.  DD also had reflux related apnea which went away.
