Vivian Jean's Birth Story

My due date was 2/21 and my 29th birthday was on 2/22. Late morning on my due date I noticed that I had not felt the baby move all morning. I chugged some juice and had a cookie and laid down to do some kick counts. Nothing. I started to freak out and called the OB who asked me to come in and have an NST done. I was trying not to freak out as we dropped off DS at my MIL?s house, but I had the labor bag with me just in case. Thankfully DH was with me and he remained calm the whole time.

For the first part of the NST I still didn?t feel any movement, but as soon as the doctor came in I finally felt a kick. Her heart rate was fine but the doctor said she was being pretty lazy and asked me to stay on for a little longer. I was having contractions that were about 7-10 minutes apart, some of them were starting to get painful. When the doctor checked me I was 3cm and 80% effaced. This was progress from my appointment a few days ago when I had my membranes stripped by the midwife.

The doctor asked me if I wanted him to strip my membranes again. He made my promise that if he did I wouldn?t tell anyone because it?s a big faux pas to do that if you aren?t the doctor on duty that night! I promised him and he stripped them (it hurt, he really wanted me to go into labor I guess!) He assured me that the baby would be coming SOON and to try and get some rest and just relax. I started having stronger contractions on the way home from the office. DH and I stopped for dinner since we figured we wouldn?t be celebrating my birthday tomorrow hoping we would have a baby soon! We had Mexican in hopes it would help with labor and it did!

We went home because the contractions were getting stronger and I wanted to rest some. As soon as I laid on the couch the contractions started to space out and become less painful. I wasn?t happy about that- I wanted to have a baby! So I got up and walked up and down the stairs a bunch and the contractions started up again- they were 5 minutes apart. I called the MW and she said to come in, especially since this was my second and I wanted an epi. I got to the hospital at 10 pm and the contractions had slowed again. I was so pissed, I wanted to have this baby! They checked me and I was at a 4 so they decided to admit me and said they would break my water to get things rolling even further. A couple minutes later the nurse comes in to tell me that a woman came in that was 8 cm and I was bumped from the room because they were full. She suggested I walk around for an hour to two to get things moving again. So we walked?

An hour later I was in so much pain. I had the shakes and assumed this meant I was in transition. They got me a room and I got the epi (thank god, I was convulsing at this point and I couldn?t handle it!). When the nurse checked me I was a 6 almost 7. I was able to rest for about 3 hours and then I felt the urge to push- it came on so fast! I pushed for 1.5 hours with DS so I expected this might be a long ordeal. I only pushed for 10 minutes and the MW said ?here she comes!? and with one more push her head was out. The nurse told me to reach down and pull out my baby, so I did and she immediately came up on my chest. It was so incredible! Vivian Jean was born at 6:24 on 2/22, my birthday! She was 7 lbs 7oz and 21.5 inches long.

I did not have a single tear or any hemmriods (it was BAD with my son!) and I felt great after she came out. When the doctor checked me the day later she said that she wouldn?t even know I just had a baby! I had her on the 22nd and I left the hospital on the afternoon of the 23rd. DS is doing great with her and we couldn?t be happier! Next year we will have a big joint party, she will be 1 and I will be 30!
