Just thought I would share my experience. DS has been having some issues with constipation since weaning to formula and starting table foods. It has come and gone but these past few weeks have been brutal. My sis-inlaw is an RMT and she asked to try some reflexology on ds' feet. Well, I am amazed at what happened. He hadn't been able to have a decent bm for 2 days and he had been struggling. She worked on his feet for maybe 10min and within an hour he had a bm, a real bm. He was giggling and being soo silly like he felt amazing. She also did some massaging of his abdomen that probably helped things along too. She showed me how to do it myself and it worked yesterday within minutes of his "foot rub".
My first son was named the "Poop Machine" at daycare so I have never had this worry before. Never thought I would be so excited about a poopy diaper. So gross, lol.
Re: Constipation-Reflexology worked!
Sure!
She suggested a few things. To massage their tummy she described it like a clock for placement, their head being 12 feet being 6 and using belly button as centre. So you stand at you baby's right side, use a little lotion and start at 10 o'clock making tiny gentle clockwise circles. Then move on clockwise around the belly with the tiny circles, she never went past the 6 o'clock position and wasn't using any real pressure just light rubbing. She said it very important to only go clockwise. When she worked on ds she said she could tell where the poop was in the intestine and that he was full. She said this works even better after a warm bath.
For the feet she suggested using lotion and starting just above the heel use an inch worm kind of motion (thumb works good) to apply gentle pressure moving up to just under the ball of the foot then repeat moving across the width of the foot. Hope that makes sense. Left foot first, not sure why, lol. I worked on ds' feet 5 min each maybe and he went within 30min. Whatever you can get them to stay still for and if they seem uncomfortable lighten up the pressure or stop and try again later. It could be uncomfortable since you are putting pressure on their full digestive system.
Hope this helps, it really has made a huge difference for us, good luck!
