XP: update on Sophia's heart appointment at CHoP.

we had our CHoP appt yesterday and came to the decision to have the ablation procedure done. the Dr said that S has an unusual type of svt called PJRT  https://www.cardiologyhd.com/ep-education/persistent-junctional-reciprocating-tachycardia-pjrt she will not outgrow it and that ultimately she will need an ablation regardless. since her current meds aren't holding her he said there is another medication to try but DH and I decided against it bc there are risk some pretty ugly side effects involved with taking it...plus she would need the ablation in the future anyway.he said we will be fit into the schedule within the next month or so (maybe sooner).there are two things that scare me about this procedure....she will have to be off of her heart meds for 4 days prior and since she is having breakthrough svts even on high doses I am so scared to see what it's like off of them. the doctor said if she is having them for too long or too frequently that they will just admit her to the hospital and give her a short acting beta-blocker (as opposed to her longer acting one) so it would help control her rate wouldn't effect the surgery. for that she would need to be admitted inpatient.  the other thing that scares me is that she has to be 100% under and intubated for 3-6 hours of the surgery.the procedure is the best option for all of us though and this is why we are going to the best children's hospital in the country with one of the best doctors!I just need to remind myself to breathe!

  • Hugs, keep breathing. I hope the time before her surgery goes smooth, and her recovery is quick.

I know how mentally exhausting it is when your child is going to have surgery. If she has to be in the hospital for a few days, I find stickers, new books and the tag reader are a great distraction for Ben.

  • I can imagine you must be very stressed out about all of that.  But CHOP is the best and those doctors know what they are doing.  Good luck with all of it!  Is the surgery soon?
  • My heart goes out to you!!  Our son also has SVT's and was born with Aortic Stenosis.  He will eventually have to have valve replacement surgery,  Thoughts and prayers are with you!!
