boy name??

Hey....what do you girls think of the name Maddox for a boy?  I kind of like it and my husband keeps saying..."Ok Angelina!"  Do you think people will only think of her if I name our son Maddox?

Re: boy name??

  • No, I think it's a really cute name...my husband doesn't like it though, so it didn't make our baby name list, unfortunately. But I think Maddox is common enough outside of Angelia Jolie's son that people wouldn't automatically associate the two.

  • Not a fan.  And I'm not sure if it matters to you, but I'm getting the feeling that X is going to be the new Y.  (See "Jaxon" "Braxton" etc.)
  • I think it's cute.

  • One of my friends wanted to name her son Maddox but the daddy didnt like it. I think it would be fine and if you both like it, go for it!
  • I hate this phenomenon.  Angelina Jolie does not own the name Maddox, and the thing is that when your son is here everyone around him will begin to think of him when they hear the name, rather than some emaciated starlet.  Sure, some strangers may think of her when they hear it, but anyone who's going to stick around long enough to get to know your son will, again, think of him when they hear the name.

Aside from that, the general consensus is that if you both like the name, then you should use it.  Nobody else's opinion matters.

  • Angelina never came to mind! I know several little boys named Maddox, and I like it!
  • It's fine but I your husband doesn't sound like a fan and if you only kind of like it then move on.
  • I think it's a cute little kid name. As an adult I'm kind of eh on it.

This!  It's not like we'll be hearing about their kids forever.  Once it's your child's name, you won't think of them at all.

  • LOVE it- I have a friend with a 2 year old Maddox... their intention was that when he's older he could also go by "Max" if he wanted.  I think you should go for it!

  • If it helps, the first thing that comes to my mind when I hear that name is Greg Maddux, the baseball player.
  • I love it!  DH isn't a fan, and it's my good friend's last name so we can't use it.

  • Yes, I would think that you jumped on the celebrity name bandwagon.  It's not a bad thing, but as soon as a high profiled celebrity gives their child a name, it instantly becomes popular.  There was another woman on this forum who named her son Knox (which is another of Angelina's names).

However, if you both like the name and agree on it, so then go for it.
