Chocolate Bunny for 15month old?

MIL sent me a text asking if DS would be allowed to eat a chocolate bunny early or even at all, when I told her DS didn't really have the teeth to chew the chocolate bunny she asked if he could have peeps because they are marshmellow.

I have talked about my MIL before and so you know she is bit crazy.  But really candy for a 15 month old?   I know I am the Mom and I don't have to give it to him, but they are coming up for a visit this weekend and I know she wants to see him eat the candy.  Is it just me or does it seem odd to want to give a 15 month old candy?  DH thinks it's endearing that his Mom wants to bring him candy.

    I think if it's in a controlled environment and an occasional event (like Easter), it'll be okay.  I think that it's totally normal for our parents generation to give candy for things like that.  My parents would too.  I'd give him a few bites and not worry about it that much.  He obviously doesn't eat it on a regular basis :)

    I understand this completely.  Not that my parents or ILs have tried to give DD any candy yet, but I didn't even want to get her the Nilla Wafers that DH got for her!  LoL

    But, like PP said, for a special occasion and with close supervision from you, I think a couple bites would be ok.  I'm sure we'll let Livy try some chocolate bunny for Easter.

    Yeah I'm not giving Cooper candy for Easter. I know there's no harm in An occasional candy but I don't want him to even want it yet. So we will wait. How about bunny crackers or a little cookie shaped like a bunny? And if you want to do candy it would be easier to gum and melt chocolate in his mouth than a marshmallow. I'd be seriously scared of choking with peeps.

    I am not (totally) opposed to him having candy but I know MIL and it will become a regular thing if I let her give him some for Easter. She didn't ask if he could have a few bites she wanted to know if he could eat the whole bunny.

    When I asked my Mom she thought it was a bit odd as well.

    I give DS candy on occasion. I would let him have a couple pieces of a chocolate bunny. And I tend to agree with your DH that it is kind of endearing. I do believe that sometimes Grandparents should be allowed to spoil their grandkids with some things that us parents don't.

    I am the sameway about candy, especially around the holidays, since it's never ending sweets.  We do Annie's bunny crackers and gummy bunnies inside his basket.  He loves them and knows they are special treats.  I can usually find them on sale at Fred Meyers.

    Sounds like my MIL... Let her bring whatever she wants and let her see that DC tried a little piece, if you're okay with it. Like a tiny piece of the chocolate or breaking off a piece of the peep. If you're not okay with it, don't give it to him, but I think this is one thing that you might just have to let go a little. If your MIL is like mine, she'll wind up trying to sneak it to your kid when you're not looking. Confused drives me insane!

    A whole bunny would be a puking disaster - if he could eat it all - which is doubtful. I say let him have a few bites. We did a TJ's advent calendar at Xmas and G got a tiny piece of chocolate each night. Which is funny since I haven't let him have juice yet (I don't want to know sugar comes in liquid form!)

    Holden had definitely had candy by 15 months old...  He didnt get chocolate til he was a year for allergy issues.  But he had some other sweets before a year, and definitely got candy after a year.. even now (especially since I got pregnant and have had SUCH a sweet tooth)  He will get 1-2 pieces every couple of days, however he never asks or begs for it, but if Im eating it in front of him and he looks at me and with those big blue eyes says "Please Mama?"  Then I give him some =P   But I also think that I am more laid back about these sort of things than most people.
