Got a medical bill today...

that I owe my hospital $275 for a hysterosalpingogram (sticking some tube up my fallopian tubes to push dye up there to find out via xray if tubes are blocked or whatever...fertility testing).  I had the test done on August 2nd, 2010

I remember coming home from the procedure crying because I really wanted them to find something wrong and they didnt...because if they did find something wrong...that would explain why we couldn't get pregnant (which no one could find a reason for...)

Fast forward 3 months to a surprise BFP.  Big Smile

Paying this bill sucks...but its a reminder of how hopeless I felt at the time and how when you are feeling super low and depressed...it can all turn around in a second.

I've never been so flippin' happy to write a check out for $275 in my life.  Big Smile

Now...why it took them so long to file the claim with insurance and all that...I have no idea....but I won't worry about that!   On to the next adventure!

  • Yeah, I had a really late bill for my hospital stay prior to my son's birth. All of them went through 10 months earlier, but one ultrasound got stuck in the mail or something!

FTR, I had a friend who had a BFP without help after an HSG. I have heard that the procedure can actually help "clear the cobwebs" from your fallopian tubes, so maybe it was just the thing you needed ;)! Congrats on the surprise, and I hope TTC #2 is easier than this one!

I agree.  I know 3 people who got pregnant after their HSG.   So that little procedure may have actually helped you get pregnant.

  • I work in a hospital and have in the past performed these.  They actually do help a lot of women get pregnant.  Women can have what are called mucus plugs in their fallopian tubes.  This procedure does 2 things, basically "clears out the cobwebs" and determines if the tubes are open or not.  I have had many people tell me that they have to have this test before every pregnancy.  I'm glad it worked for you, paying the bill, not so fun however :)
  • Well at least its going towards your deductible that you would end up paying anyway...for the birth/labor.
