Preemies

Sad my IUGR daughter lost weight....

I took both girls to the Pedi today.  They called this their 9 month check up....but they are not quite there yet.  Anyway, each and every single visit I have expressed concern about my DD Kate.  She is only 13# and my DD Lauren is now 18#.  I know I should not compare, but when they have such a huge weight difference, I am worried.

Today...she fell from 13#10 to 13#2.  (she was weighed just a week ago on the same scale, same diaper etc. ) I asked the Pedi if I can fortify her diet/and or formula with anything to "beef" up her calories.  She kind of brushed it off.... I finally insisted that Kate needs more calories, and she did give me a formula to increase her from 20 cal to 24 cal.

I just worry about her so much (Kate).  She is delayed developmentally and needed a CP exam (still haven't ruled out CP)...and I just needed to share.

  • *hugs* try not to stress out too much, every baby grows at their own pace, so maybe she is just a little slower/smaller! And since she was IUGR maybe she will grow a little bit slower. Lyla was only 13 lbs 6 oz at her 9 mo appt too and her pedi didn't act like it was a big deal. She hasn't lost weight but has been on a plateau for a while. She is EBF'd and just recently started BLW with solids, but not actually eating too much. Try not to stress too much about the weight gain and just hang in there mama!

  • Hugs!!!

I hope it's just her normal, and that nothing is wrong.  I hope the 24 cal helps.

(((hugs))) I'm sorry that Kate's losing weight, and that your pedi brushed you off.  Judith is an IUGR baby too, and weight loss is one of my biggest concerns for her so I can get where you're coming from.  What formula did your pedi put Kate on?  I hope that the 24 cal formula can help her gain.  Hang in there, and know you're doing a good job!

she is on Isomil (soy).  She is having me add extra powder to the solution.  She gained weight well on Neosure, but was always fussy on it.  thank you for your post.

it is Smile .... i'm being worried because she lost.  She is below the charts weight wise.  Adjusted, she is in the 5-10th%...so pretty tiny.  thx for posting.

  • Leigh, you may want to research a product called Scandical.  The company will acutally send you a free sample (a huge sample at that).  It is a tasteless product that will add 35 calories to whatever food you mix it in.  Just a thought for you.
