diaper rash :(

My poor little guy has 2 real red places in the inner part of his butt cheeks. When I was changing him today it even bled a little. I have been using desitin but wonder if there is more I could be doing. He has a pedi appt on Friday so this and his horrible gas will be addressed. I feel so bad for him and my heart is breaking.

Re: diaper rash :(

  • desitin isn't always the answer.  Try triple paste.  You can find it in the same place as the desitin.  It seems to work better when my daughters have bad rashes.

  • we had the same problem, including the bleeding. it's so traumatic for everyone!

    here's what we did:

no wipes, we would run his butt under the faucet to rinse it off

we then used kleenex towels (super soft) to pat his butt dry (don't rub/wipe)

someone here suggested triple paste and it's been AWESOME. we tried desitin, butt paste, aquafor... nothing worked like triple paste.

it took a few days since he was so raw, but it finally cleared up.

we also did some naked tummy time (with a cloth diaper underneath him because he's a little poop machine).

  • Best diaper rash cream ever (recipe from a friend's pedi): Mix Eucerin Aquafor with original Mylanta. Clears it up very quickly.

  • Once you get the rash cleared up use Vaseline with every diaper change to prevent rashes.  A friend of mine reccomended it and her LO is 1 1/2 and has never had a diaper rash.  My LO is 5 weeks and no rashes so far.

  • Also try vaseline and then cornstarch over the top.  It has helped my oldest daughter with terrible rashes!

  • We started using cloth diapers when DS was 2 weeks old, and he started getting diaper rash during the transition time. At every changing time, we started letting him air out for at least 5-10 minutes before putting a new diaper on him- basically as long as he would lay there for. We also use a product called CJ's BUTTer at every change and haven't had any redness since.
