Because I couldn't decide whether I wanted to give G the chicken pox vaccine. My old coworker is getting very defensive because neither of her kids are vaccinated.
She and her husband also believe that the government and pharmaceutical companies have conspired to put HIV into our drinking water and hide the known cures for both cancer and AIDS
Re: I'm ingniting a vaccination $hit storm on Facebook
Paranoid, much?? WOW.
LO #1 - 1 unmedicated/self-monitored IUI w/ donor sperm.
LO #2 - 1 m/c, 2 BFNs, 4th IUI worked (unmedicated/self-monitored with new donor sperm).
Life is beautiful!
Seriously...tell her to google "herd immunity". Her bad decision making is putting babies and others who cannot be vaccinated at risk. Way to go, lady.
NOT AT ALL. That's exactly what my response was. She was questioning why I used the word "sadly" when I said "sadly, there are many school age children attending public schools who have not been vaccinated"
People who actually believe this stuff frighten me.
Me too.
Philly, it's a SECRET, you just aren't cool enough to be in the know. Or is it that you aren't stupid enough to be in the know? That chick's a nutter.
Wow. Conspiracy theories are fun to talk/laugh about, and they make good plots for movies, but very few should be believed.
As for me, I decided to trust the system and follow the standard vaccination schedule, and I don't worry about it one little bit. The doctors who determined this schedule are experts. I am not an expert. I need to believe that they know what they're doing and have my child's best interests at heart.
Just curious - do you know how or if the Canadian schedule differs from the US/CDC schedule?
I'm not sure of differences, but here is a link to the schedule. A post above mentioned MMR at 2 years, I think we give it at 12 months.

That actually varies by doctor in the US. Ours does it at 12 months, some do it at 18, some at 2 years (although I've only heard that a couple times, 12-18 seems to be more common).
LOL! In that case I'm so in trouble!
I wondered about the chicken pox vaccine myself. After talking to our doctor and reading about it, I decided to go for it. My original thought was "well I had the chicken pox really really badly but I was fine in the end so what's the big deal?".
Apparently the chicken pox virus of today is much much worse than it was when we were kids. I trust our doctor. She is very interested in discussing our choices and options. When I mentioned getting the H1N1 vaccine for Reed last year, she made me wait on one of his other vaccinations because the base of them was too similar and she was concerned that his body wouldn't create the proper immune response to both if they were given too close together.
The woman who did my very first day 3 blood draw wayyyy back in the day...she gave me a huge lecture about my future children and saving them from getting vaccinated. Um awkward!
Someone figure out how to do a poll about vaccines on here...I am interested to see the percentage that didn't vaccinate.
And CBL, I think it varies from province to province. My BFF in Nfld. said their vaccine schedule is different from ours.
I did a poll on MMR once...but I can do a general poll.

I got into a similar discussion with a friend of my sister's (who I haven't even met) who was blaming the woes of today's society on the fact that kids get vaccines. She was totally uninformed. She doesn't have kids yet so hopefully she'll educate herself before she does.
Your old coworker sounds like a nutter. Does she think the moon landing was faked, too?
